What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning! Have you heard or read anything from Marc and Angel Chernoff? They’re authors / life coaches, and here is one of my favorite quotes of theirs:
“Eat like you love yourself. Move like you love yourself. Speak like you love yourself. Live like you love yourself. TODAY.”
Does any or all of this quote speak to you? It speaks to me for my WLJ, for sure. Not just the eating and moving part, but speaking and living too. For me, it isn’t enough to only try to address the eating and moving aspects of losing weight and working on my overall health. I have to remind myself to be kind to myself in word and deed, because it’s way too easy to beat myself up forever when I make a mistake or a dumb decision or choice.
Here are a few other quotes of theirs that I like:
“When you are no longer able to change a situation, you are challenged to change yourself. And that changes everything.” “Being positive doesn’t mean ignoring the negative. Being positive means overcoming the negative. There’s a big difference between the two.” “Use disappointment and frustration to motivate you rather than annoy you. Be mindful. You are in control of the way you respond to life.”

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: I'd never heard of them, but like all the quotes.
Re DH's friend: The police found him in his apartment; in bad shape but alive. He's under protective custody, so I'm assuming he's in a hospital. I hope he'll be okay.
Here's wishing everyone a peaceful day, Lee

I'm not aware of the couple either. The quotes remind me of the one about dance as if no one's watching or however it goes. In general, I'm a positive personal and I avoid negative situations and people because who needs negativity? There's enough of it in the world without having to live with it too.

I very much like the quote about eating, moving, and living like I love myself. If I were cynical (who me?) , I’d say that eating like I loved myself would involve treating myself to a heaping handful of M&Ms. But I think that the best meaning of the quote would be: “feed my body nutritiously and healthfully. I’m like a luxury car that thrives on premium gasoline; no need to overfill my tank, especially with the cheap stuff! If I am going to indulge in something caloric, let me choose it mindfully and enjoy it slowly, with the attention that it deserves.”

I love the quotes. I think treating yourself with love is key. So many times I have scolded for myself for not taking care of myself - that's messed up and is inherently counterproductive. It makes for a happier life besides (treating yourself with love)!
