What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)?

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Sorry this is late today, but I will explain under today's topic.
Today's topic: Responsibility
Do you consider yourself a responsible person? What are some things that you do? How do you handle them, how do you feel about them, and do you usually finish what you start?
As for me, yes, I consider myself a responsible person. Things I take care of: household responsibilities, primarily. These include making loads of phone calls and using the computer when necessary. I handle them with general competence, feel good that I can take care of what needs to get done, and almost always finish what needs to get done (I pick the importance of doing things when possible!).
Do I do these because I'm Jewish, a woman, a mom and wife, and/or just because there are so many things that need to get done? LOL --- it depends! I think responsibility is a Jewish trait, as well as the others I mentioned. Some of these are because of cultural input, while others have just grown on their own.
Let me tell you about my morning. I had our regular pest control guys over, and they sprayed for ants as well as removing a wasp nest. It wasn't until the workman was over that I learned that they do not do any work on ladders because of liability, so they would not be able to remove the hornet next (which was the main reason I had called them!). After a surprisingly few number of phone calls, I was able to find another company who will be able to come over tomorrow afternoon (!!). I am very happy about this.
Other things going on: I have had considerable problems scheduling blood tests and appointments with my primary doctor and my endocrinologist. They want to talk with me about my recent diagnosis of osteoporosis, but my endocrinologist wants me to get blood tests before I meet with her. I didn't find this out until late yesterday afternoon; also I was fast asleep when the office person called. DS woke me up to talk with her, but I was 99% asleep, so I couldn't get anything worked out. I had to call this morning to cancel my appointment (something not done lightly, as the endocrinologist can be very hard to contact). I also went back and forth with my PCP's office about getting the blood tests, as the doctor is out until Tuesday and he needs to approve the blood tests. I finally made up with the PCP's office that they would call me on Tuesday after they get the doctor's approval, and with the endocrinologist's office that I would call them as soon as I have the blood tests. Does this all sound confusing? I assure you, it was!
Whew.
To make a long story shorter, I think I am done for the day. All these phone calls, conversations, and paying bills on the computer have worn me out. It's a good thing I am responsible!! I hope everyone has a peaceful day, Lee

Wow!
Yes, I too think I'm responsible. I don't say yes to things I don't think I can do (or get done by whatever deadlines may exist). And I expect other people who agree to do things to get them done. (Don't get me started on this aspect.)
I'm a bit distracted. I have almost finished packing. DH was able to arrange for an Uber to take us to the airport (and it was more expensive than I thought it was going to be). But we are "checked in" and have our boarding passes (thanks to the internet; I was able to check in online and print the boarding passes this morning). I still have to figure out what to do about my purse/handbag... It's too packed to fit into the one free carry-on bag (the second bag is like the "personal" one they let you take, but it's a tote bag filled with clothing)... So let me go. I'll pack my laptop into the second tote bag in a moment.

I'm back online after Shavuot. Sorry you are having so much trouble with all of these appointemtns, Lee. Very frustrating but you are handling it all calmly. I know I would be very frustrated.
As is my wont I took on too much preparing/shopping for all of the food for our tikkun leyl (Tuesday night study session) and the kiddushes for both mornings. Turns out people were so responsive I had a high reward for my efforts and a very satisfying holiday. My sense of responsibility is clearly in there! This sense is quite possibly overdeveloped in me but it served us all well for this holiday.

Hi everyone, Shavuot is closing now, I've had a stomach bug all day, which was not fun, especially since I read Torah this morning. I was pretty sure I was going to have to leave and let the ritual director take over my reading, but I made it all right, and even through Yizkor as well.
About responsibility, I think I am a very responsible person, as a parent and employee in particular. Sometimes I'm disappointed when others don't behave as responsibly as they should, or they flake out on their duties or obligations with no good reason. I am not perfect, nor do I expect anyone else to be, and I am forgiving when circumstances come up to throw a monkey wrench into things. But it's important to me to honor my word, and I greatly appreciate it when others do too.
I have enough points for the small amount of ice cream left in the freezer, so I'm going to go have that, then loaf until bedtime.
