What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning and shavua tov! Well, it’s the last day of June, half the year is gone now, and the summer is upon us. What are your plans for the summer? Any vacations? Barbecues? Get-togethers with friends? Weddings? With all the meshugas in today’s world, I feel like we need something positive to think about this summer, and not just ice cream.
I will be reading Torah several times throughout the summer, as I always do, and since I’ve done them many times, it’s not hard to brush up and prepare. There usually aren’t many bar or bat mitzvahs at my shul during the summer, if any at all, so there are fewer people in attendance, and it feels friendly and haimish. We’re not doing any traveling and don’t have any social events coming up, so we will just concentrate on relaxing, spending informal time with friends and family, and drinking a lot of iced tea. DH and I are talking about a road trip to the Grand Canyon in the fall, so we might get started on plans for that.
How about you?

At the end of July I have my adult summer camp. I had said I would be doing at least a little yoga in preparation for the trip and I have not, so that gets moved up on the list along with my other exercises. I also need to reapply myself to the qualtity and quntity of what I eat. Lookng for a simple calorie counting app to augment my IF app, which has an inadequate database.
Next shabbat services move out of our beautiful un-airconditioned sanctuary to our much less beautiful airconditioned socail hall - that will be a good thing for the summer. I volunteered to take care of the kidush next shabbat. I don't think there will be many people and I still have some stuff (including 1 cheesecake) left over from all that prep I did for Shavuot.
The Macy's fireworks here have been moved back to the Hudson River this year which is very exciting for me becasue I live so close to the river. The thing is getting down the palisade - there's a big hill or 130 steps to go down. It's been 13 years since it was on the Hudson - can I still do it? Driving is out of the question because the traffic will be ridiculous. I may do a trial run (meaning walk) today at least part of the way down and see how that goes.

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: I can't believe it's the end of June already. I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer, as long as I can stay in the air conditioning as much as possible. My plans include getting more involved politically, relaxing with my family and friends, and enjoying the beautiful flowers and birds. I'm hoping to see more deer and foxes (no bears though please).
Have a peaceful day, Lee

We are smack dab in the middle of our summer mountain vacay. It is heaven. In August, in between dodging hurricanes, we have a bat mitzvah trip with one granddaughter, and we have been invited to the beach (a three hour drive) , where our friends have rented a condo. At the end of the month, we are flying to meet my brother and sister in law for a few days. It’s very busy but lots of fun to look forward to.

Nothing special for summer. I too am volunteering more for Torah and/or haftarah readings at various congregations for July and August, but not a whole lot more than during the rest of the year... I've already signed up for a Torah reading late in July and a haftarah reading for August (two different congregations). We'll see what else turns up, whether Jewish or other...
Must go shower, dress, prepare breakfast no doubt to eat in the car on the way to minyan...
