Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: I had two poodles when I was a kid, and would enjoy having one now. Other than poodles, I don't think I could handle having a dog. Cats would be nice because they could entertain each other. Actually, it is a LOT easier for me to not have any pets. With my walker, I'd be constantly worrying about tripping over them, toys, or random stuff. I also definitely would have trouble dealing with their litter boxes (cats) or getting DS to walk the dog.
However, I am in political solidarity with "childless cat ladies." Yay Kamala Harris!!
Have a peaceful day, Lee

The idiot running for the most important electoral spot in the US has children of his own and has always treated them like crap (and basically still does). I suspect most childless people treat children better than he does. Where does someone dream up the b.s. he spouts? Oy.
Growing up, I so very much wanted a dog. Someone (at some point) bought me a stuffed dog that stood up by itself (that is, it wasn't like a soft cuddly teddy bear). I attached a color and a leash and pulled it along behind me all through the house. Apparently I really really really wanted a dog. My mother had allergies to animal fur (and to a few other things) so we couldn't have pets (okay, I had a goldfish for a while, but bird feathers were another allergy of DM's...).
However, at one point in my early 20s, I received one kitten from a litter and after that one, over the years, there were a few additional individual cats (I don't remember ever having two in the house at the same time, other than when a litter was produced, and then each member of the litter was given away at about 8 weeks).
When I met DH, he had an aging dog (and had had a dog most of his adult life). It was blind and deaf by the time we met and died a few months later. He wanted to get another one; I didn't want the fur on the floors (mostly on carpeting or rugs, but also on hard floors). We moved into this house in January of 2005 (the people we bought it from, who had already moved out, owned it for about 25 years and they were the second owners, to give you an idea of when it was built) that had just been re-carpeted (and had the single ugliest wall paper you can imagine that had been in what was going to become MY bathroom which had gotten removed and the walls repainted between the first time we saw this house and the second time we were here, maybe a week or so later). For sure I didn't want to vacuum up fur from the new carpeting. So I haven't had a fur-friend since my DS was a child.
I'm not sure that really answered whether I'm a cat or a dog person...
Getting ready to attend the first day of NewCAJE. It starts at 8am but nothing necessary is happening until after 12, so I'll leave the house around noon, go pick up the woman I carpool with for teaching, and we'll arrive in time to pick up our name tags and other registration-type materials, maybe shmooze with friends, maybe visit the vendor area, and be in our first workshops by 2:00. The early workshops (today) are 2 to 3:30 and the later ones 4 to 5:30. There are five in the 2:00 time slot I'd like to attend, but I did narrow down my choices to one #1 spot. In the later workshops, there's only one I'm interested in, and if my friend doesn't find even one, we'll probably leave around 3:30/4:00 to drive home. I haven't looked at tomorrow's offerings yet.

While I am all in for Kamala , I am a dog person. I think dogs are wonderful, loving, supportive, and funny. That being said, I’m not currently a dog owner - I don’t want the mess or extra responsibility.

I like dogs; we had one when I was growing up, a sweet-tempered spaniel mix. My sisters and I played with him, walked him, and just loved him.
I lived in rented rooms, then a college dorm, then apartments with DH as an adult, so we've never been able to have a dog. But we've had cats since we've been married, and we love them. Our kids volunteered at a pet rescue place in high school, so we adopted our current cat from there. The kids had helped to socialize her, so we knew what her personality was like. She's been a great addition to the family, and a perfect alarm clock, I might add.
I can't imagine life without a pet - I just love the companionship and the fun of it.

One other thing about cats: my mom hated them, and we weren't allowed to have them as kids. But all three of my sisters and I have had cats our entire adult lives. :+)
