What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread: Frieda (hopefully) Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Today, I’m going to talk about a good friend of mine, and her current thinking on the election. The friend, is a woman of intelligence, and more importantly for this story, political acumen. She no longer lives in NOLA, but I see her when she comes to town, a few times a year. A few months ago, we had dinner together. Her political leanings are very much like mine (as well as all of you). At that time she said she “beyond convinced” that Trump would win. She had already decided to “go off the grid” on Election Day 2024, and not watch the returns. She had completely resigned herself to Trump winning, and has even booked (with her DH) a 3 day biking trip to coincide with Election Day.
Anyway, the friend came to town for a visit and today we had lunch together. I asked her how she was feeling about Kamala Harris. She got a big grin on her face, and said, “For the first time in a year, I think we actually have a shot, a chance. I’m excited. And I’m actually starting to watch the news again for the first time in ages.”
Does this sound like what you guys are hearing in your worlds? (Taking a poll here!) Are you feeling more hopeful, like we “have a shot”? Has this affected your mood in the same way it has mine?

On a related note, I want to repeat a true thing that happened maybe 20 years ago. It was Election Day. I had already voted, and I went with some other lawyers to a Japanese restaurant for a sushi lunch. The place was usually really crowded, but that day, it was easy to get a table. As you know, many Asian people have trouble pronouncing the “L” sound in the English language. Anyway, I asked the lady at the hostess stand where everyone was, since the restaurant seemed empty. The lovely Asian woman replied,”Everybody voting! It’s erection day!”
We definitely enjoyed the thought of millions of American male voters , walking around with erections.

Yes, yes, yes, in my circles there is a lot more positivity going around now than I ever would have imagined. It's quite inspiring!

I'm not sure I'm hearing "lots" of the same, but what I am hearing is pretty much the same. I certainly feel that way! (And I giggled at the anecdote!)

The following letter appeared in the L.A. Times:
"Hey, Sen. Vance, it's me, childless cat lady. You got one thing really wrong: I'm not miserable. In fact, I'm having a joyful time writing a check to Kamala Harris for President."
I don't know the letter writer, but it was just too good not to share.

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: YAY for Kamala Harris! She has re-energized a lot of people, and (dare I think it??) has a real chance of winning the election. If my one Republican friend decides to vote for her, I will KNOW that she will win, with all my heart.
Have a peaceful rest of the day, Lee
