What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)?

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

I'm starting Tuesday's thread on Monday, as I have early fasting lab tests on Tuesday morning.
Good Tuesday morning in advance! Hope you will all be well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Tuesday's topic: Fun with friends.
What are some things you do for fun with friends?
As I said in my Monday thread, I just like talking with people I care about! That is the main thing I do with my friends. I enjoy phone calls, emails, and our group's zoom meetings. I also enjoy meeting with Carol (my neighbor) for Scrabble once a month with DS, alternating houses. We generally play two games and have snacks. It's a lot of fun.
Every once in awhile, we'll go out to eat together. I enjoy that a lot too.
This past weekend, I really enjoyed having a "fig party" with DS, Carol, and her DD and GD. I think we'll make this an annual event!
How about you?
Have a peaceful Tuesday, Lee

As I have aged, I have come to treasure certain friends more than ever. What do I like to do with friends? The typical, I guess: Talk (share, gossip, learn); drink (coffee, wine, etc.), travel (anywhere and everywhere), eat (my house, their house, or out), and most of all, laugh.

For yesterday's post: Most of the time, I'm on the computer during the day (after morning minyan, that is), either tutoring or being a student, checking email and browsing recipes and articles, and DH makes himself scarce. When he gets home, we often watch TV and chat. I talk with my DS not weekly but frequently, and we also email. When we're together (she lives in the L A area and I'm in San Diego, so it's about a 3-hour drive during heavy traffic times like around Thanksgiving; otherwise it's shorter) and I absolutely love being with her and DBIL. He and DH get along great too. In the past, DH and DS have spent time watching sports on TV while DBIL and I are outside talking or walking. He and I used to walk more regularly than during the last few years. One of the reasons I don't like playing games with DH is he's too competitive; for me, it takes the fun out of the game.
My son lives in Oregon and we don't see each other much but we're close. We video chat although not as often as I'd like (his somewhat erratic work schedule gets in the way), but I Zoom with my youngest grandson not quite every week but almost. He's the one who graduated from college in June; he found a job near Rochester, NY and we'll video chat in a couple of days (for the first time since his job started only a couple of weeks ago).
DH's kids (daughter/son-in-law and son/daughter-in-law) don't live close either but we Zoom with his youngest grandkids almost every week (they're now going into 1st and 2nd grade). The older two? His daughter (who lives in the L A area too) is distant, like she's punishing him for something he hasn't been able to figure out, so we don't have a close relationship with her two (both in high school).
Today's: I spend time with local friends, often at or after weekday morning services. I also Zoom with two of them (one weekly). I also Zoom weekly with friends I've made from online events (one lives north of here, sort of near L A, and one in New Jersey near Princeton). As for other friends in the San Diego area, we stay in contact via email and phone and get together a few times a year in person, often in someone's back yard (these are women I've been friends with for about 30 years). Since the pandemic started, however, in person meet-ups haven't picked up to what they were prior to Covid...

Love talking with my friends, going for dinner, going to shows or special events, taking walks. I have one friend I used to do walking outings with that had fallen away becasue her dog was sick; I hope to resume that.

I have a couple of female friends that I get together with regularly (separately - they don't know each other) for dinner. It started out as a means to escape from the nonstop duties of taking care of little kids, but even now that the kids are grown up and (mostly) gone, we still do our regular dinners. It's relaxing to just hang out and catch up.
I also like to go to shul with bff; he was the one who taught me how to daven and was DH's and my shul-buddy for years. But his partner isn't doing very well physically, and he can't really be away from him for the whole morning. We see them both on Friday night, but that's about all these days. Bff and I also talk on the phone sometimes, but he's so overloaded with working and taking care of his partner that it's hard to find any time, and I certainly don't want to cause even more of a burden. So we enjoy what time we can spend together.
I had to work a couple of hours of overtime to finish a project, and now my eyes are crossing and I'm zonked. Luckily, when DH went to the kosher butcher this afternoon, they had some of their yummy taquitos in the deli, so that's what's for dinner. Yum, yum! They're already cooked, we just have to zap them in the microwave. We have a ton of fruit around here, so we'll have that as sides.
Everyone have a pleasant and relaxing evening!
