What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread: Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Today we changed over the books in the sanctuary which for us also means stuffing the books with various papers, including, this year, the words to Acheinu. I had a good group, plenty of people, so it went record breaking fast. Woke up with a sore throat though and had cold symptoms all day. I also ate way too much – ice cream soothes your throat, right?
Anyhow, hope I feel better tomorrow. This evening I finalized some other things for RH, so moving right along. Still haven't really studied so very glad I cut back on my torah reading.
Thought I would share this quote from Rabbi Lawrence Kushner that I came across in Siddur Lev Shalem this past shabbat:
Angels Th Hebrew word for angel is malakh, which also means “messenger,” one who is sent….Unsuspecting and unaware. Consumed by their own plans and itineraries. Busy at work on their own schemes…people chosen to be messengers of the Most High rarely even know that they are God’s messengers….I do not know how many times in one’s life one is also a messenger. But for everyone it is at least once.
I loved this. I wonder if I ever helped anyone in this way? I do feel I have been helped by strangers. I don’t believe in coincidences but it is hard, of course, to say what came from God. A nice thought. I like that everyone gets at least one shot at it!

In general I like Lawrence Kushner (own and have read some of his books) and even had the good fortune to hear him live (both of us in the same room! [with lots of other people there too]). I have also stopped at that page in Siddur Lev Shalem and loved it the very first time I read it there. Thanks for the reminder. Every once in a while, a student surprises me either by repeating something I taught or doing something I suggested or when I find out (maybe from the parent or someone else) that I was the student's favorite teacher, so I suspect I've been God's messenger already (and perhaps even more than one time).

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: I agree, angels are among us, sometimes doing things in the most unexpected ways. People have helped me out of nowhere, and I have done the best I could to do the same. I want to say that you never know when even a little action on your part can have a significant effect on someone else!! One time, I was driving very late at night, and picked up a hitchhiker. He said he had been trying to get a ride for a very long time. I don't know what made me stop for him, but I'm glad it worked out well. (I hate to say this but I would not do that now; too worried about safety.)
Have a peaceful day, Lee

What I loved about this quote is the concept that everyone is a messenger at some point in heir lives.
Louise, I hope you feel better. I had a terribly rotten cold recently. I hope for your speedy recovery
