For clarification... Ally is 3 now (Jan 1). Her parents were about 15.2. I still have not measured her. She's in the neighborhood of 13 hands.

Hi,
Lukas was a bit full of himself when we started cantering today doing little half bucks all over the place, but he eventually calmed down and went correctly. I have another day off tomorrow so I will ride again. I guess Lukas is full of energy. We did ride a little bit around the farm because it was such a pretty day. I also turned him back out which I don't do if it is bad weather. After I put my tack away I went back out to take his photo and he already had mud on his face. LOL

As he and Sugar got older the arthritis set in and they quit doing that.

Good Morning - Faye - have fun babysitting the carpet guys! Yes they use water weights & noodles -so far only the weights in the classes I've taken -the first time I just grabbed a pair -didn't realize they were the heavy ones -had to go down a notch! DH bowling is a senior league very low key - it runs year round in 3 sessions -he enjoys it - we used to bowl in a couples league but it was at night & I hated going out in the winter -and it was used as a "practice" night for the really big/good bowlers so no matter how good we did (I had 145 average) we never did well -then the last year we bowled they gave us a spread sheet & I realized we were paying $1200 a year to be frustrated!
Amy -yes a spring horse is a challenge - can you/do you lunge him first? I try to find good footing once the snow is gone to lunge Penny a bit -our round pen stays icy/snowy well into April -and while she's good it's never a bad thing to just let them work off a bit of sillies! The funny thing w/ Penny is since she has some hind end thing going on when she bucks it's kind of side ways! I had started working her over ground poles in the fall which seemed to help her hind end -if we have a log to go over on the trail it is difficult for her to get her hind end over it & I found that the ground poles helped so I will start that again once the ground is clear.
Dutch -15.1-2 is a good size from my way of thinking (what are your plans for her again? CRS here!)
Waving to the rest of the gang - off to Upreach - will pull Penny's blanket first -going to be upper 40's today. Ride if you can - HAGD - CBL

The blanket fit pretty good, she wears an 81 and it is plenty big, it must run a little big. It's a nice blanket! And I've never bought a waterproof, med wt blanket for 35$ before! It was a good sale! Rosie wears a 72 and I have about 6 blankets that size. Lucy only had 2 and they were more rainsheet weight. Beth that's great that Jeffers is in your neighborhood. I really like ordering from them! Dutch; are you going to start some saddle work on Ali this year? Barb; love your glasswork on FB Amy; how are the new shoes? Wave to Faye and Cathy and aTF - dh just called and said hay is being delivered in a couple hours, I'm still in my pj's and I have to go get cash! Lucy was a little jazzy yesterday, I'm taking her off alfalfa - she is fat also I put her on the lounge line and dgd did walk trot and canter!

Good morning.
Went to Walmart this morning and decided while we were there to go ahead and get the shingles shot. Only problem is since neither one of us is 65 yet we have to have a prescription to get it. I called the drs office to call in a prescription. I'll call Walmart around 3 to see if they did. DH and I will go back to Walmart to get it after his bus route.
Jeffers also has a pet supply department. I used to get all my puppy vaccines from there when I used to breed dachshunds. You can get most of your horse vaccines there also and all the syringes etc.
Dutch 15 or so hands is a good height. Not too big and not too small. Just right lol.
Faye-was green the color you had picked? Glad you picked up another show.
Barb-ground work always helps the horses.
Libby-how long will you stay in AZ when you go?
Cathy-as much as you swim, you must have a great set of shoulder muscles.
Amy-hope you get to ride today. Did DH go back to work?

Hi, all! Faye, wow...1.5 hour lesson??? I'm not sure I could sit that long! Sometimes 45 minutes feels long, sometimes short. Glad the carpet is there and getting installed! And nice about the new show, but is 30 minutes worth the harp set up, etc? Beth, I really only swim 2x/week. Some folks are there everyday, or most days. It's just too much of a time hog for me to be there so much (don't think most of them work). Glad you're getting the shingles shot...I think about that periodically when the commercials come on TV Libby, glad dgd had fun on Lucy. And wow...23 years! What a time you've had! I'm glad you're feeling ready to let go...hope the money stuff works out for you Barb, my ex-boss's wife does ceramics and I think she bought a used larger kiln. I've been to her shows...she has stuff EVERYWHERE! I don't know how they live moving around w/o breaking stuff! I think pole work is good for horses, so is hill work...gets their butts under them. Have fun! Amy, like others mentioned, does Lukus lunge? If his little bucks aren't bad and he settles quickly, guess it's not an issue...I always thought it was kind of fun but that was 30 years ago Glad the geese are doing well! India is on holiday today, so it's pretty quiet. I hope I get to swim today but if someone needs something done, I might have to stick around. We'll see how it goes. BTW, the woman who flailed around "swimming" was taking lessons. She was working on her "exercises"...mostly just not drowning Last harp lesson tonight (unless we try Skype). Cathy

Hi all, Extra day off today so I rode, yay! Lukas was good as gold today. Just one little buck at the start of left lead canter and the rest was perfect. Lunging is not really a skill I have learned and the one time I tried it with my first horse I found it scary. He was a high energy OTTB who did not know how to lunge so no wonder. If Lukas wants to be a bit silly I think just riding it out works for now. He has 2 days off from Sunday's lesson to Wednesday so I think that is maybe where the extra energy comes from.
the new shoes are working well. My old shoes were pretty worn out so the new ones feel much more supportive and cushiony.
Libby I will have check out the Jeffers blankets. I need a new medium and that price is fantastic. My barn prefers the blankets with tail strap instead of back leg straps because it makes changing blankets easier for them so I will have to check out the styles. At that price I could maybe add my own tail strap.
Cathy-enjoy that last harp lesson!
Faye- I am excited for your new carpet. Our first floor carpet is 21 years old. blah.
Beth- I keep considering the Shingles vaccine, I know some people who have gotten shingles and it is terrible.
Barb- I used to do water aerobics years ago and enjoyed it. My new gym that is much closer does not have a pool.
Probably riding again tomorrow! I am on a roll.

CATHY-the 30 min is worth it. it's pretty local and I've played there a few times and it is under new management and new activities person. So glad to go. I'm the warm up for some kids that are coming to do about 15 min of Irish step dancing . have a good lesson. hope skyping works out. BETH-shingles vaccine is a good idea. I think DH got his but insurance won't cover it til I'm 60. Although it's a new insurance so I should ask. Thanks, sort of reminds me to ask. the green carpet came with the house. the new one looks pretty. I got a lot away but have to wait til tonight for DH to make sure the bookcases are in the right spot and then we'll put the books and albums away. Monday is the other room but I'm pretty much done. Having company Saturday but doing brunch so buying most of it. LIBBY-glad the blankets fit. BARB-wow, that's a lot for bowling but I do yoga and spend more for that so we all have things we enjoy and then it's usually worth it.
tired but happy with the room waving to all. HAGE

Hi all,
I had a good WI today. Still not back to my pre-holiday weight. Someone I work with did something yesterday that hurt my feelings. I woke up really angry this morning. I have had time to think about it and I need to try and just let it go. I should be important to myself even if others do not think I am important. One of my fist bosses used to say "Don't let the turkeys get you down".
I bought a WW journal at the meeting. It is a 12 week journal and I am going to use it to keep myself motivated. If I can lose a pound a week when this journal is done I will be at goal. (my goal not necessarily the official WW goal.) One pound a week is a lot for me so as long as the scale is going in the right direction I will be happy.
It is 39 out but kind of windy and damp so it feels colder. February and March were the worst last year so I have plenty of winter to get through. It is worth it for Lukas though he is such a good boy.
Faye- I am so glad you like your new carpet! It is so nice when you get something new that makes such a fresh impact.
Barb- I like to do pole work. Lukas is now used to going over poles at first he was a little unsure of them, he was not used to them.
I get to go out later and ride again today! I am helping my DD2 assemble a desk and hutch tomorrow it has a lot of parts so I am wondering how long this is going to take. We will have fun doing it though.
Hi to All,

Faye; glad the carpet is working out! Barb; I'll have to look at the Lucy's blanket. It looks really well made. It is the Jeffer's brand. Amy; the blanket has some ties under/by the tail flap. I have never seen that before and was trying to figure out what they are? Is that what your talking about? I'm taking Lucy off alfalfa, she was all wired up - no buck, just wanted to go! She doesn't know how to lunge very well. We are working on it, and it can be dangerous getting caught up in the line! Barb; bowling sounds fun and I would be happy with a 145 average! Beth; I got my Pneumococcal vaccine yesterday, they said I had to wait till 60 to get shingles. Also had a very good visit at the drs. yesterday, a f/u to my mammogram which was recommended by the radiologist. I'm high risk for breast CA so I'm going in for genetic counseling/testing. Dutch; my girls are both 15.2 hands, just perfect for my long legs! Rosie tall and thin, Lucy kind of a tank! Cathy; I'm headed to AZ on Tuesday and will stay till the 15th. Lotl

I bought a new swimsuit yesterday with my Christmas gift card, so you never know!! Sunny out, so I guess I'll spend some time outdoors today!

I should be important to myself even if others do not think I am important. Amy my boss (back when I was working) would say things that hurt my feelings quite often. I would stew over it all night long and really get myself all upset. He never even thought about it hurting my feelings. He just said it. I did a lot of praying over things he said. The one thing he said that hurt the most was after he had given me a raise. One day he just said "I think I gave you too much of a raise" What?! He didn't remove the raise but I didn't receive another one for several years. Yeah co-workers can be hurtful sometimes. I think you have a good attitude about it. Beth; I got my Pneumococcal vaccine yesterday, they said I had to wait till 60 to get shingles. I turned 60 17 days ago so my insurance covered it.

Hi, all! Faye, glad you have one room done, will be nice when both are freshly carpeted! Amy, I used to struggle with that stuff all the time, the seemingly hurtful comments. The ones that bothered me the most were work-related, because I prided myself on my work. In counseling, she said that I thought too much in "black and white", that someone was always right and someone always wrong. That's not life in general and I had to look at their comments from another angle. Also, responding to what people say without anger is another thing I learned. It's hard, I admit it! Have fun on Lukas...that will help your mood! And the journal is a good idea! Beth, ai yi yi...what is it with bosses??!?! Before the above mentioned counseling I had a boss tell me that I wasn't nice enough when she came in every morning to say "hi". Huh? I thought I was supposed to be working??!?! We had a rough patch but ended up working things out. Hey, did you just have a birthday? DId we know that Libby, yay for AZ!! The weather here has been nicer, but I hate to tell you that more rain is coming. I hope you get a chance to enjoy that new bathing suit! Barb, is your weather continuing to warm up? I can imagine that water aerobics is a good workout...my mom loves her class! Dutch, yeah, 15h sounds about right Did get to swim yesterday, and had a lane to myself...absolutely lovely Found out there had been a robbery at a local bank and the suspect drove via the road that's had landslides and trees down...so they CLOSED THE ROAD...again. Both directions...for hours! No way to really get over easily except for turny, twisty roads, and even some of those were closed due to earlier landslides. I'm not sure I'm cut out for this area Will try for a walk today...need to pick up kitty meds at the local pharmacy. Cathy

CATHY-sorry about the roads closed. that's rough. hope they catch the robbers. that's scary too. glad you swam. BETH-happy belated birthday. LIBBY-if you are hi risk have you had an MRI? Glad the dr. went well, did they do an ultrasound? smart to get the genetic testing (I assume BRCA?) thought of you last night, Watched Gray's anatomy and it was all about a 16 yr old in prison giving birth. AMY-people are odd and say or do stuff they don't realize hurts others. or they don't care and know they are doing it . Either way, i always remember something Julia Roberts said in a People mag "would you rather be right or would you rather have peace"? (ok, i like to be right, but there is something to that ) if it's not a big deal let it go. think of Lukas and call it a day I try to think of cheery things like what new tune I'll learn. you can think what you'll do on your lesson with Lukas. Life's too short to let other people get to you. How was DD1's day at work? GOod luck building the desk. BARB-hope you get to ride. a bit cold and gray and gloomy here. May see a Movie Sunday, which should I do first-Hidden figures, lala land or Rogue 1 if i go? DUTCH-waving thanks. love the carpet and excited for the other room. Got all the stuff back in the first room and am pretty much done with the second room so can entertain tomorrow (just got back from the market) and even try to see a movie Sunday waving to all HAGD

Busy here this morning! Hit the gym, then the barn, then the dog park! no wonder I have no time to spare! Catching up on paper work -then a friend asked for a favor -to go to where she is now renting/boarding her horses & wait for some guy to come with a run in shed & have it placed in the pasture -she sent me 8 pictures of where it should go -this should be interesting (she couldn't get off work!)
Cathy -crazy about the road/robbery -is your weather getting better? We have 40's but windy here -snow is crunchy-melting. Don't think we will be riding any more this month
Faye- glad the carpet is getting done -
I got my shingles shot a year or so ago - my sister who is 56 has shingles now - & it's not pretty. I had my gyn apt on tuesday -and apparently since I am now on medicare (!) they will only pay for an exam every other year -and no more paps!

Hey, did you just have a birthday? DId we know that I had one on the 10th. I didn't make an issue of it. DH and I had a nice lunch out and then we just stayed home. I got my shingles shot a year or so ago - my sister who is 56 has shingles now - & it's not pretty. And this is why I decided to get one.

so- I get to the house where the shed is supposed to be delivered - it's in a large pasture-entered from the road- all ice/snow-about 100 yards or more to where she wants it -the driver looks and says no way is he getting his truck in (or out) of the pasture -so he backs the flatbed into the pasture & unloads it pretty much right there -it's an Amish built shed -really nice -and he told my friend just hook some chains to the rings on the bottom of the shed & pull it across the ice to where she wants it (she has a tractor!) Pretty funny - good night all - tomorrow's another day

Hi all, Nothing like a trip to the barn to put my head back in order. Lukas and I had the indoor to ourselves. I started the ride with my legs hanging down out of the stirrups and just walking all around, changing directions, circling jumps, walking over poles just loosening up a little. Humming a little tune the whole time and Lukas would turn just one ear back toward me to listen to the tune, very cute. Then we went to "work" the ride went very well and I am looking forward to my lesson on Sunday. When no one is at the barn I talk to Lukas a lot. LOL He is a good listener.
Barb, you are a good friend to be there for the shed delivery. It is nice when friends can ask favors of each other. I am sorry you might not get to ride for a month.
Happy Belated Birthday to Beth!
Dutch_ I am waving to you as you trot on by!
Cathy- can you walk from your house to the pet med place? Glad you had the lane to yourself.
Faye-Seems like there are a lot of movie choices right now. Be sure to share what you watched and how you liked it.
Libby- any kitchen progress? I checked out the blankets and it seemed like they all had back leg straps. The ones I like have a tail strap. I will send you a message on FB messenger the next time I get to the barn, a picture is easier then explaining. While I was shopping on line a friend messaged me that she had a blanket I could have so no need to buy one for now. How nice!
Day one of the WW Journal went very well. Looking forward to day 2!

Good Morning - Amy - I sing to Penny all the time when we are on the trails - she also "listens" - her "faborite" is the Name Game...".Penny, Penny, BoBenny..."! I love elastic leg straps -especially since Penny is turned out 24/7 -they do keep the blankets from shifting. Her fleece liner has a tail loop strap only but the liner does shift under the blanket - lucky that so far this year only needed it once (actually only needed heavy blanket 2x so far!) Will head out to barn in a bit to groom etc (bridle path needs trimming) Then I have to be at the art gallery for my art group to set out my glass for the Feb/March display. Good luck w/ journaling!
Libby - when you you leave? you're driving? how long a trip? Be safe.
Beth- yes - happy belated birthday. I understand about low-keying birthdays -at this point -it's just another day! Even more are anniversaries. DH & I will celebrate 36 years on 2/14 (yes, I know - corny!) we really don't do or buy anything - there is really nothing I "need" or want - and usually if we do - we just get it. We save the money we would have spent for vacations.

Hi horse lovers, Just need to do my final timesheet and mileage and meet my boss on Monday and I'm done!! The horses wouldn't eat the new hay the first night, so I was concerned $300.00 of hay they won't eat? I guess they changed their minds as they ate it last night and this morning! Amy; love the new blanket, glad you didn't have to buy one! I think Diesel has a blanket that has a strap straight across the tail area. Is that what your talking about? Sometimes when people say mean things I let it go, sometimes I say, "wow, I always try to be nice, yet that was really rude/mean!" It's amazing how people back peddle when you stand up for yourself. It's usually not you, something else that's bugging them. It has always changed my relationship with the person for the better. Barb; I'm flying to AZ on Tuesday afternoon So excited! I wish I had one of those sheds! Beth; Happy Belated birthday - I've seen enough shingles to want the shot now!! My co-worker went to see Hidden Figures last night. Cathy, So sorry about all the slides and scary about the thieves! Dutch; clip clop love it! Faye; I'm going to have a diagnostic mammo in 6 months. I've had ultrasound before with a different provider, I had a spot of concern and a negative biopsy. Haven't had a MRI before. I'm so claustrophobic they would have to drug me! You should have seen me on the tractor yesterday! managing all that manure-dh usually does it, it took me a while to figure it out and I was slow! HAGD everyone!

Hi, all! Faye, glad you got the one room done, and are ready for the next. Have a nice party, and yes, let us know what movie you see. I really should go more often Beth, happy belated birthday (kind of dragged that one out of you, huh ). Yes, we all just kind of ignore the days...much one like the other. I used to take a few days and go to Hawaii, but that got too $$. Maybe for 60? Amy, glad you had a nice ride with Lukas. I used to lease a horse and would take off at lunch from work and go on short trail rides...it really did help settle the mind Barb, that was nice of you to help your friend! Yeah, how did you ever get everything done while working??!?!? Glad you're keeping busy, but bummer about the long non-riding period. Libby, glad you're flying...that's a fairly quick flight I would think. Re: the hay, I guess it's like anything new, our pets are always thinking we're trying to pull a fast one of them! Dutch, waving as you go by! Cat's been a bit up and down this week, allergies are bad. She seemed better yesterday but wasn't happy again today. I guess it will settle when all the acacia stop blooming! It's gorgeous here...sunny, not that warm, but perfect for walking. Did do a loop yesterday and stopped by Walgreen's for the insulin. Way easier that fighting traffic to the other pharmacy! All marketing is done, will walk again this afternoon. Tomorrow will try to drive (barring any landslides, trees down, or suspected robbers!) to mom and dad's for dinner. We're planning our visit to SoCal for my nieces graduation in May from Loyala-Marymont. PS: I don't think they've caught the robber yet. Cathy
