Good Morning - Waiting for the rain to begin (again) cleaned the barn - Penny was acting kind of funky -using her hind leg to kick at her belly -I heard grunbling sounds -she did roll - which she usually does anyway -but is up - asked BM to keep an eye out -I swung by after grocery shopping and she was up nibbling grass so maybe I'm over reacting -but will keep checking during the day.
Bills paid for the first of the month -now to start to tackle the basement glass mess -I have tubs everywhere with assorted glass -from the shops and just stuff -really have to get organized -good day for it -DH took TUndra to the park so time to get cracking!
Waving to all - (Amy - want to hear about show!) Enjoy the holiday - CBL

Whew! A lot has been going on. It's quite a story. My DM has/had a neighbor who has stomach cancer. She has/had a little Shih Tzu named Coco who is approximately 2ish. The neighbor "Edna" lost her DH to heart attack and her children to cancer. She has several sisters who are older than her. Edna's biggest worry was/is her dog. I told DM about January that if no one wanted the dog that DH and I would take him. Months down the line.... Thursday Edna was admitted to the hospital with metastatic CA and pneumonia. She was admitted to Hospice on Sunday. While Edna has been in the hosp/hospice my DM has been feeding the dog and taking him out to do doggie business.
Today we got the call to come get him. So now we have a new dog named Coco. He is neutered about 15ish lbs and seems to be a sweet dog. He will be the house dog and DH is already smitten with him. DH took him for a long walk before we transported him home and then I walked him around the yard about 15 minutes before letting him in the house. Gave him food and water and brought in a crate so he can sleep in it at night (with the door open). This is what we did with Pixie before she went to doggie heaven about 3 years ago.
DM said Edna doesn't look very good and is mostly just lying in the bed existing. I couldn't stand the thought of this sweet little dog being euthanized just because nobody wanted him when his owner died. I'm a sucker for things like this.

Hi All, Beth, How wonderful of you both to take the dog! I hope he brings you and DH lots of joy as dogs usually do. Faye, I love to go look at house tours. How is DD doing now, fully recovered? Barb, I hope Penny is OK! Libby- I am sure DGD's had a blast and you are probably glad for a little quiet now. Dutch, How do you like having chickens? A friend of mine just starting keeping them this spring and I am a little jealous. I am not zoned for hens though, I checked a few years back. The show was a long day. got there at 10:30 but I didn't ride until after 4:30 I did take Lukas off the trailer and hand graze him for a while in the morning. He was quiet in the trailer and dozing off in the afternoon. I was not very happy with our jump rounds. It came down to not being able to get him moving again, it makes lead changes hard. I do not have this problem at home or at the first two shows so I don't "get it". I may do some schooling shows and try out a few different ideas. Went back to Artfest with DD2 this morning. The vendor I was looking forward to but didn't see on Sunday was there today! I bought 2 belts. She has some equestrian themed belts that she designs herself. www.mangobaydesign.com Picked up subs for lunch on the way home where the rest of the family was waiting. Had lunch and angel food cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream as my birthday cake. Opened cards and gifts. DH and I are going to Longhorn for dinner tonight, just the two of us. HAGD Amy

HI all - Amy - that's a long day to wait for classes -that's too bad that you had to just "wait" -that may have been some of his problem - as I said on FB - you haven't had him that long - you guys will work it out
Penny seems fine - I checked on her after shopping & Dee checked when she fed lunch - said she was grazing when she got there & ran to the lunch hay - so maybe just a little tummy ache -or maybe I'm just a bit of a worrier!
Beth -that is so good of you to take the dog -I am sure the neighbor appreciates it -and sad about her life -
Got most of the glass inventoried for the new shop -taking it to there on Friday -
Have a good evening

Hi
Just trotting through, going into the office this morning and then to the barn. Tomorrow should be my last day working for a while, (until someone gets sick, or wants days off, etc.).
I haven't had to worry about watering the 3 new perennial plants, God has been taking care of that for me.

Howdy folks!
I hope you all had a great Memorial weekend!
We're done stringing fence for new pastures. Still have to rip up old (4x6?) fencing and replace with no climb. Now Ally has at least 2 fields and we have a garden area (also for chickens) and Ally can use it for a short time 2x a year. Should be decent pasture rotation for her.
Having chickens is ok. It's more my DH deal than mine. He has like ..? 16 hens and a rooster now. I sell eggs to some coworkers, and we give them to family. Everyone says they taste better.. I don't notice. They do look better - more vibrant yokes.
DH did turkeys last year and I guess wants to next year. They were juicier, of course no added saline solution... but can't say it's cheaper to raise them - but they are tastier.

Hi, all! Faye, glad you had a good time at the Mansion tour. So...it used to be a dr office...they have completed converted it back to it's original setting? Rehearsal was good...did not see the woman I practiced with, I'm not sure if she's doing the concert. There were only 4 of us so not sure if that's the entire group (my teacher will join in). Beth, what sweeties you and your DH are! I'm so happy that you took in Coco...she reminds me of our old family dog. Glad DH is enjoying her...the cats? Well, cats will be cats...they'll get used to the idea one way or another Amy, I agree with Barb...if I had to wait all day to do something I probably wouldn't be up to it either (and in fact, have left because I've waited so long). Sorry it the show didn't go as planned but still, a learning session. Sounds like you had a nice birthday (love angel food cake with strawberries and whip cream!). Barb, glad Penny is OK...does sounds like a little tummy ache. Sounds like the glass sorting went well Dutch, my exSIL started raising chickens for eggs. And she's in the suburbs...not sure how that zoning works. As a neighbor, a rooster would drive me nuts. But apparently the eggs do taste better so have fun with that Nice that Ally now has another pasture! Libby...shhhh...enjoy the peace and quiet... Let's see...Sunday I went swimming in the morning, never did that before. Wasn't too busy so nice. Finished staining the doors and drawers so maybe next weekend start the polyurethaning. Yesterday was a hike, didn't start until 2pm, usually the time I start winding down, so I had the same problem as Lukas...didn't wanna go, but made myself and very nice. The light was so lovely late in the afternoon, different that what I usually see. On my drive home, I mentally thanked all the veterans for giving me opportunities to hike in a free America. Apparently there is no contractor in the area associated with AAA to do the dry wall work, no big surprise since nothing has gone well for this project. I called the adjuster to ask about next steps. Lets see if she loses my voice mail or just plain...doesn't respond Harp lesson today...not sure about exercise as I'm still tired from yesterday. Thought about a swim, so will just see how I feel. CATHY-have a good lesson. make sure there's good ventilation with the polyurethane. I remember when first married I was redoing furniture left to us and almost fainted from the fumes. had to hang out a window to breathe!! Never doing that again. And stripping wallpaper--never again. I'd tear down the house before I'd do wallpaper Yes, Mansion was privately owned back in the day. Apparently they had people for the Met. Opera come and entertain at the turn of the century. Must have been something. then it was a Church, then Dr. offices now nothing. Pity. The decorators then take all their stuff back. but at least it's painted. The building is for sale. DUTCH-we are suburban and my neighbor has chickens. Can't believe we are zoned (depends on size and they have enough I guess). one once jumped the fence and ended up in my yard. They retrieved it. I planted trees so I wouldn't see them. their dog used to chase them. it was something. I think it attracted the fox that then lived under my shed. She was pretty. had babies and I'd watch her nurse them. I think she's the "neighborhood fox" there are always sightings of her now and again. LIBBY-how is DH? BARB-any news on glass selling in the new place? riding or rainy by you? AMY-have a good last few days at work. BETH-hope there is peace between dog and cats. Did DH start his teaching the drivers course yet? gloomy and rainy. HAGD

Faye that mansion sounds fabulous! My neighbor had chickens that kept getting into my yard/pasture. I had to put up chicken wire lol! The Rooster was a stinker, would get out by my bedroom window and crow in the early a.m.. I thought dh was going to shoot it! They must have had it for supper as it disappeared! Seeing the fox and babies would be something! Cathy; sorry about the ordeal! Glad you got yourself out and had a good hike! Amy; I'm with cathy- afternoons are not my time, poor Lukas! I'll have to look up that website Dutch; you guys have been busy with fencing! Barb; trust the new glass shop will have some great sales! Beth; Coco looks like my moms old dog (daisy mae), she was a sweetie! HAGD everyone, waiting for hay delivery

Hi all - the day got away from me - met a friend (who lives about 2 miles from me but haven't seen since Early April!)for breakfast at Panneras -then barn to clean -even tho it's still muddy I shampooed Penny's white hind legs -just to make me feel better! Then got a pedi-.
Beth - glad the new dog is settling in nicely -all these chickens etc -there are some at the barn & I sometimes get eggs but more often just forget to ask!
Having dinner tomorrow night w/ DS's in laws - we get together a few times a year -it's a cordial relationship -which is nice.
Libby -how much hay do you get at a time - if you don't mind me asking - what do you pay for a bale? I'm always amazed at the varying pricing even just around here! I may have mentioned that a good part of the hay they got at our barn last year was really straw-y and the horses were just wasting it -BM finally admitted it -and now that is being fed to the cows who apparently don't care -AND -2 weeks ago he got a load of 1st cut that is so green & leafy -we have to be careful to mix it with the older hay (that they are eating) so that they don't get sick!
Finishing up bills - having my mah jong group here tonight -waving to all -until tomorrow!

Good Morning All - and yes, it's raining AGAIN! For Libby (and any others) Mah jong is a game played with tiles (in the olden days (!) they were made of ivory -i actually have my mothers old set like this -now they are plastic -originated in China -still played by old Chinese men -now mostly Jewish women! There are 4 suits with numbered tiles & some other characters -a yearly card of "hands" is put out by the mah jong league - you are dealt tiles then some passing and then go around picking & discarding them -the object is to match one of the hands on the card -each hand has a value (.25-.60) and the winner gets that from all other players. THe game we play is different than the mah jong game you see on line & different from the Chinese version! And Faye - no bridge mix-just usually some popcorn or fruit & coffee!
Interesting about hay prices -I don't know exactly what they pay at my barn -I know prices run from $6.50 - $9 a bale depending on where you get them from - square bales -very few people here use round bales -don't know why.
Puttering around here this morning -will feed lunch and go visit a friend I have not seen in a while (she was away for 3 weeks in Sweden) then we are meeting DS's in laws for dinner.
Waving to all -HAGD -Stay dry!

Hi horse lovers, I guess I'll finish up some kitchen painting today (walls) painter only did ceiling for me. The flooring and countertops estimators are both coming next Tuesday, then it will be two - three weeks before installation Ready for this project to be done!! I settled for a darker floor, makes me a little nervous as sometimes darker makes area seem smaller. Darker floors and white cabinets are the in thing right now! Will go see a display of the countertop later today, we ended up doing quartz. Barb; hay for horses is at a premium around here. I can get local hay for 4$ a bale, it has little nutritional value-the horses don't really like it-a lot of waste, plus I have to go pick it up and stack it myself, only weighs about 50 - 70 lbs, a bale. Sometimes I buy it for winter filler. I have to buy expensive Purina Ultium for Rosie, 29$ for a 40# bag, she eats 6 lbs. a day! She finally looks good after 8 weeks of 6 lbs. a day, she was really skinny when I got her back from Heidi's barn. Not really Heidi's fault-just Rosie needs extra fat in her diet and gets skinny every late winter/early spring. Faye; love the 1 crack, 2 bamm SOAP! and bridge mix is the best!! Beth; I notice my brother bought round bales this year, he has lots of cows now also - you have to have lot's of room to store them due to the wet climate around here! How is the puppy doing? Amy; hope your getting time off! My dd who is the dental assistant at the office had to do the front and assisting yesterday due to the receptionist not coming in, it's fun to go to the dentist when your dd is the one helping the dentist with your mouth lol! He is so sweet, he gave her two extra paid hours for running her hinenny off yesterday! One of the hygienists that has worked there for 30 years is retiring today, happy for her, yet sad. I'd better go get my painting clothes on and get busy - wave to everyone!! HAGD!

Hi all, Beth- Coco is super cute! Cats will adjust.
Libby- I have had a quartz countertop for about 10 years not and still looks great.
Cathy- Hope the concert goes well. The whole garage thing is just so sad, too much time and effort on your part then should be needed.
Faye- we have had a gloomy and rainy stretch here on the NE coast. Boring.
Barb- thanks for the explanation of Mah jong. I see it in movies and TV. but never in person. My mother and father were very much into playing bridge.
Dutch - pasture plan sounds great.
My last day of work and going to a presentation this evening about some new technology that can be used to diagnose decay. I asked to come along and see what it is all about. Possible investment for the office but for now just seeing what it is and is it worth it.
Lukas was a muddy mess when I got to the barn last night! LOL
got to run

Hi, all! Faye, interesting about the Mansion. It would be nice for someone to buy and restore Beth, we know how you like your grocery shopping! Glad Coco is doing well. Amy, have fun at the presentation, AND with your "last day" at work (unless they need you). Enjoy the extra hours in the week! Libby, at least the painter did the ceiling...the worst work ever! Totally need a chiropractor after that. I would also thing round bales are hard to break down. Bales always kind of split for "servings"...not sure how that works with round, we always had bales. Glad Rosie is looking good! Barb, I have fuzzy memories of playing mah jong when I was young and not sure why. I think I was also taught bridge when I was young because my mom's group needed a forth. I guess you do what you gotta do! Have fun with in-laws (or was that last night?). Hi to Dutch (probably recuperating from all the fence work). Adjuster did call back, told me I could show the estimate to another contractor and if they don't agree, to let her know and she'd revisit the estimate. I just don't really have anyone so putting out feelers to other folks in the area. I could call the kitchen contractor I used but the guy I worked with isn't involved with that company anymore so kind of not feeling it. Sigh... Had my lesson (Faye, we are now learning Southwind) and yes, concert is Friday. Not perfectly ready but somehow I rise to the occasion Will swim today; afternoon meeting was cancelled. Cathy

DUTCH-enjoy the view! CATHY-rumor is if bought would be condos. don't think any one could afford that as a home. it's huge. Don't know Southwind? is that a K Robertson? do you like it? good luck. you'll be great. fun to play with others Good luck with finding a contractor. AMY-enjoy the presentation BETH-how are the cats doing with Coco? have they made friends yet? Happy shopping, I stopped at the market on the way home from my harp lesson LIBBY-happy painting and I agree with Cathy about Ceilings. BARB- happy puttering. enjoy dinner. I met DH because of Mah Jong. my mother met up with a mah Jong buddy many years later on a bus, they chatted and it was a blind date. REst is history. And I have my grandmother's set ! Haven't played since Optometry school (my friend and I and our mother's would play --WITH bridge mix ) waving to all. HAGD

Hi,
Back from the presentation and we ended up investing in the new tech. It was not as pricey as some other things have been and DH thought it would be very useful and I think the patients are going to like it. Good presentation and the dinner they served was delicious.
My trainer has been busy with the Devon horse show this week so my winter trainer is going to give me a lesson this week. It will be nice to see him again.
Had a glass of wine with dinner so now I am sleepy, I just hope it doesn't wake me up at 3 am, it is funny how wine does that to me now.
