Hi all, It seems that, six days in, we are already 25% of the way through the space we are allowed for attachments, which for us means pictures. After that, we have to pay. Since Bill Gates isn't a member*, we'll have to come up with a different solution. (BTW, this is about images in posts. Not avatar photos.) From now on, please post pictures by uploading them to your favorite picture hosting site and then using the "Insert Picture" button to link to them. Here are some free picture hosting sites that you may want to join and use: Imgur(See below for tutorial by Teach) PhotobucketFlickr added Google Images or Facebook, if your settings are public If anyone knows of any others, please add! Here are some instructions in case you're not sure how to link to your photo once it's uploaded: www.proboards.com/user-guide/posting/inserting-imagesThanks, and the "Add Attachment" button will be going away. *if Bill is here, please identify yourself

I may as well ask you this here as I'm sure others may have the same question(s):
Does this include Gif's or videos?

I know this is a dumb question, but I am a dumb person:
If I post a picture to one of those sites and then link it here, can people navigate from that picture to other pictures I have posted in that account?

Videos are already embedded and hosted elsewhere so no change on those. That is, you find something on Vine or YouTube, then you use the "Insert Video" button and paste in the link.
I believe the services that I linked to above also host gifs, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
I should also say, if you're linking to a photo on another site, there's no change. This is only for things you used the "Add Attachment" button for previously.

Corky, I believe it matters on how you set up your account and 'albums' at the hosting site.

Corky, I believe it matters on how you set up your account and 'albums' at the hosting site. I just tested this on Photobucket and it is true. I posted a photo in the Testing thread and was not able to see any other album when I wasn't logged in. I set my other albums to private and just left this one public.

You can also directly link to Flickr photos. Flickr offers free accounts. Once you've uploaded your photo to Flickr, navigate to the View All Sizes on the photo. Choose the size you'd like to embed, then copy the URL. That's the direct-link URL that you can use here to embed the photo.

Clarifying question. If I find something on the web and right click > copy image address, and use the insert image button, that's ok to do too, right? Or is best practice to put it in a photobucket or imgur?

Or is best practice to put it in a photobucket or imgur? It used to be considered bad etiquette to do this since you're using the original site's bandwidth to share photos elsewhere. I'm not sure if this is still the case or not, but it might be best to imgur it (although then sourcing becomes an issue, etc.).

Plus you risk them taking it down. My thought is, if it's someone's blog, upload the picture to your photo service. If it's CNN or Buzzfeed, you can just link to their image. I deleted my post with my original answer.

For my animated GIFs, I've mostly been using giphy.com, which supports hotlinking (directly linking to their images) in much the same way Imgur and other sites do. But unless it's a site specifically for that purpose (or a huge commercial site like CNN or Buzzfeed), it's considered bad netiquette to do so.

Tinypic is also a good option and easy to do on the fly.

Here's how to share a picture from your device via imgur.com-- 1. Go to imgur.com2. Click on "New post" at the top of the page 3. A box will pop up--click on browse, and find the image you want to upload (or you can drag and drop), and click "Open" 4. Your image will show up in imgur--when you hover over it with the pointer, a drop-down menu will appear. Click on the down arrow, and then "Get share links" Like this: 5. Then "Share Options" will pop up, and you'll click on "Copy" for "BBCode (Forums)": 6. Paste that link directly into the post.

See the image below. When you go to the Images section of Imgur and click on a thumbnail, you should see this window. To share an image here on the board, choose the option I have circled for Linked BBCode. Then paste that link directly into your message/reply here, don't use the image button in the toolbar here on the forum.

If you are in Albums, and you click on an image from there you should see this window. Use the dropdown arrow to choose get share links (see images below), and then choose get BBCode, and then paste that link directly into your message or reply. Don't use the insert image button here either.

Has anyone figured out how to get that BB link from the Imgur app? I figured out how to get it by going to the Imgur mobile site, but it would be easier if I could get it from the app. I have played around with it a good bit and can't figure it out.

becca and Admin - My brother told me that I could use Tapatalk to post pictures and that tapatalk hosts the pictures. I had not downloaded it b/c I am so used to just using the mobile version. But, this feature is very helpful, as I find posting pics through imgur a hassle. Anyway, this isn't using the bandwidth from proboards, right? So, I can just post straight from tapatalk without any of the crazy work arounds described above? If so, would you mind me posting on the main board that this is an option? I didn't know and it will really make a difference for me, particularly in the hobbies thread where I want to post pictures of my finished projects. I am thinking it will make a difference for other people too, as most people have pics on their phones.

suzieq52083 Yes, that's the case and I have Tapatalk just to post pictures. I use regular mobile for everything else. It's been posted numerous times but it never hurts to do it again!

LOL! Okay, I totally didn't 'hear' it before. I don't know how I could have missed that people were doing that.

If you are posting from amazon photos:
don't do what they say you should do. That will only give you a link you can email to someone. What you should do:
open the photo on Amazon photos right click on the photo to bring up the menu click on Copy Image Address switch to NGDT click on the spot you want to insert the photo in your post, click on the image inserter button along the top (8th from the right) and then type CTRL-v to paste the copied address.
finish your post and click on Create Post
