Hello all! I’m back to work today – boo! Bad backs are SO painful! Amy, glad you are back in the saddle! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the import! Although very much in the honeymoon phase, Ally is very sweet. She’s starting to test me (not walking forward with me on a line), but she’ll learn it’s not a choice! I’m just grooming her, playing w/ feet, ears. Loving scratches. Getting her used to fly spray bottle and LOTS of treats! She’s the first horse I’ve had who will come up to me in a field. I’m very honored she will do this!

Hi,
Just a quick update. The import is not flying until next Tuesday. She changed the date since she is going away this weekend. She likes to be here when they arrive and if he flew earlier he would have arrived at the farm while she was away. I don't think there are daily horse planes so you probably only have so many options.

Good afternoon. Had Bible study today. Then got my machine out of the repair shop. They put an upgrade on the tension settings. Getting her used to fly spray bottle and LOTS of treats! Dutch you might want to try this trick that my farrier taught me. Get a 2 gallon garden sprayer. The kind you have to pump up the pressure to. Put your bug spray in that. It is so much quieter than a spray bottle and you can adjust the spray nozzle to whatever setting you want. It sprays on quicker and the horses seem to adjust to it very fast. Faye- glad the muscle relaxer seems to be helping. Libby-sorry your appointment is in Oct.

Thursday 9/15
Good morning. I have a funeral to go to this morning. My XDA (who was married to my departed DU) mother passed away. It more of in support of XDA. I've been busy packing and getting ready to leave tomorrow. Tonight DH and I have dinner with a cousin of DH's from Minnesota. They are in town and will be leaving Tuesday so tonight is the only time we really have with them.

Hi, all! Faye, I had issues with muscle relaxers but glad they work for you...they do make you sleepy. Didn't you go to the dr? What did he/she say? Beth, so sorry about the loss in the family. Glad you are there for "X's" When you 'vend', do you also take your machines and show/sell your work? Dutch, sounds like you're having fun with Ally! That's an important start Allison, be careful of your back, too. Working on ceilings can put lots of stress there. Or are you done? Libby, how do you stay sane with your neighbors and your "camp" behind you??!?! I'd go crazy, start carrying a shotgun Have fun at horse camp! Amy, do you know much about Westfalians? I don't...I just wondered what kind of horse breed they are. Your trainer sounds like such a good person...so unusual in that business. Let's see...Tuesday it rained. I picked up my new glasses and are very unhappy with them. I can't find the focus so am getting headaches. Will need to take them back. Worked on the cabinet doors. Wednesday was a walk with a friend and stopped by mom's to drop something off for her. Today is more cabinet work and then the cat goes to the vet at 3pm, then harp lesson, whenever I get there Tomorrow I have all day to myself! Will probably work on cabinets and go swimming in the afternoon. Supposed to be hot this weekend! Here comes Indian Summer Cathy

Hi, Beth, sorry to hear of your family's loss - it was nice of you to support your XDA. I hope you enjoy your dinner with DH's cousin. Dutch - I bet you're having such fun with Ally! Please post some more pics of her if you get a chance Faye - I'm glad your back is a little better! I hope soon you don't need the muscle relaxers at all. Cathy - sounds like you're busy with house projects, too! I hope everything went ok at the vet, and that you get your glasses sorted out! Oh my gosh, this sanding!! It is seriously the pits. I'm short, so have to use a ladder, but I can't get the ladder into the corners and reach the area to be sanded, so have to stand on a chair on my tiptoes...ugh. I have been really pacing myself so I don't get super sore - I do about 1/2 hour a day, working my way around the 4 walls. I should be finished with the last wall tomorrow, here's hoping! OH, and the MESS! Dust everywhere. Every.where. I need to put up plastic sheeting tomorrow before completing my last wall, since it adjoins to the kitchen - the prep for this job takes almost as much time as the job itself! I did manage to take a good walk this afternoon, though, so that's good! The weather here is perfection - crisp, sunny, beautiful! I hope everyone's having a great day!

ALLISON-I'm with Beth . I pay to have someone do that ever since that bathroom wallpaper stripping I did. I vowed never again. Be careful and wear those goggles and mask! Good luck with it. CATHY-busy day. enjoy the harp lesson. hope cat does ok at vet. interesting about India. sorry about the glasses. hope they marked them correctly. is this your first pair of progressives? dr. said no exercise or yoga, wet warm compresses and the Aleve and muscle relaxer. and I got my flu shot
waving to all. HAGD

Believe me, I am usually the very first person to outsource alllllll sorts of projects! Unfortunately, we bought a fixer upper, and had to do MAJOR repair stuff over the past few months. Our bank account is kaput! If I want anything changed, it's going to need to be done on the cheap, i.e., by yours truly😄
I am going slow, slow, sloooow, so as not to get too overwhelmed (and throw my hands up into the air and quit entirely, ha!)

Amy, do you know much about Westfalians? I don't...I just wondered what kind of horse breed they are. Your trainer sounds like such a good person...so unusual in that business. I had to look up Westfalian breed. They are known for a good disposition and being friendly. They do well with Dressage as well as jumping and have been a part of successful Olympic riding teams. They were bred to be good riding horses. Sounds good to me, especially the friendly part. I am so thankful for my trainer. Now that I have owned a horse I feel I am better with one then without one. I just feel overwhelmed at the prospect of having another horse search on my hands. I thought I was settled in with Rueben for the long haul. I am just letting her do the finding. I filled out the paperwork for Rueben's life insurance yesterday and mailed that off. Made me a little sad all over again. I signed up for a riding clinic tomorrow at a friends barn. It is an eventing clinic so not exactly what I am doing now but she has a nice large pony for me to use so off I go. She told me it is her most "hunter like" pony. Faye- so do you sleep through the night with these pills? It is so hard to sleep with back pain as you already know. Take it easy. Cathy- hope you get to your harp lesson. Beth-so good of you to be supportive and sorry for your loss. Dutch-Since I live in central PA your name always makes me think you live near me. LOL. Ally sounds so cute. I am glad she comes up to you in the field. Allison- You are doing great! you will have a good sense of accomplishment when it is all done. I once got myself into a powder room wall project that lasted for months, I did finally get it done but I greatly overestimated my abilities. It wasn't months of work though, I got tired of it and lived with it partly done for a while. Hi to Libby, hope you are not working too much! Amy

Amy, I'm sorry for your difficult day with the paperwork, and it bringing painful feelings for you. I hope in time you can find another amazing horse to share your life with ((hugs)). The Westphalian I rode was a dear; very friendly and a gentle soul. Sounds like it's a breed characteristic!
This is is probably a major long shot, but since you are in central PA, are you familiar with the blogger/blogger at CRK training? I guess the town is Honey Brook, PA. The trainer's name is Callie, and I subscribe to her riding video emails. The barn where she operates out of looks amazing! Just curious if you were familiar with that at all.
thanks for your encouragement on my project - I have no choice but to finish it, otherwise my husband may just kick me out of the house (since I was the one to insist on starting it RIGHT NOW.) 😄

Friday 9/16
Good morning. Doing last minute packing now. We will leave the house about 9am, get to the arena about 1ish, set up the booth, get the motel room and then go back and vend the show tonight. This will be my last post today.
The funeral yesterday was nice but rather long. Dinner with the cousin was very nice. we went to a BBQ place. I had the BBQ chicken breast.
Waving to all. HAGD

I did go look at her FB page and I might sign up for the videos too. Always nice to hear what people are up to with horses. I never know where I am going to pick up that "nugget" of an idea that really works for me. I went to WW meeting today and stayed for the meeting. It was nice to be back into routine and I lost a pound. Don't know how but I'll take it. Faye- are there any autumn traditions in NYC that you enjoy? The big Central Park Horse Show is coming up soon right? Hi to all that follow. I will check back after the riding clinic and see how you all are doing.

Hi, all! Faye, glad your back is doing better. Isn't it always a nuisance with what you NEED to do (practice harp ! Beth, good luck at the show! Allison, OMG...look at you! I always hated working on the ceiling so you are my hero! I had to paint my kitchen ceiling (cost saving) after it was refloated...thought I was going to die. But it sure does feel good after it's all done and you can say "yes, I DID THIS!!" Dutch, she is a cutie! Love the coloring and patches! Amy, I like the "friendly" part of the Westfalian description. I'm glad WW went well and congrats on WL (sometimes I do better when there are other things going on and my friend, you have a lot of other things going on!). Have fun at the clinic! Eventing can be fun Libby...I guess she's at horse camp, right, and Barb is still on her cruise. Saw some weather coming in...hope they are doing OK. The vet visit went fine. At least for me, the cat is never happy with the vet. She lets everyone know exactly how she feels. She's a good girl though, doesn't scratch or bite, just REALLY loud. Also got to my harp lesson on time. Thinking of expanding from 30m to 45m since we're doing more and run out of time. Will check with her. Got all the cabinet doors done, working on the drawers and will start to work on sanding them. Need to start on the base as well but since that's inside, I have to figure out logistics (Allison knows, sanding inside is messy business). Hope to swim today...supposed to be warm! Cathy

DUTCH-she's beautiful. love the white and black tail too. enjoy getting to know each other. AMY-no NYC traditions. I don't go to the NYC horse show. the jewish holidays are in Oct so fall is usually the holidays. When DD was little we went to the local farms for the corn mazes and pumplin picking etc. DH and I used to go to a D&B for a weekend in Oct but we've done most of the nearby ones so not sure (and the holidays are a bit later this year). Winter we do the tree at Rockefeller center. I don't even do the windows anymore. Did them when I was a kid and DD was little. congrats on the WL!! CATHY-glad the cat did ok. I take a one hour lesson. so maybe 45 min would be nice til she leaves. good luck with the cabinets. BETH-have a good show BARB-should be home the 18th. hope she's having a good time. LIBBY-have fun at horse camp
back is better. and didn't take Aleve this morning. Hate taking stuff. so we'll see how it goes. HAGD

The riding clinic was fun. The pony was true to pony form and kept me thinking the whole time. He only ducked out of one jump on me. It was a skinny jump that was added into the mix and I don't think he was expecting it plus skinny jumps are easy to go around. It was a challenge because the turns were very tight between jumps and I was on an unfamiliar pony but I listened and I improved as we went along. I have gotten so used to hunters that it was good for me to do something different. This pony was named Fynn, he is cute and gave me a good workout for sure.
Up late, going to try again to sleep.

Good Saturday morning,
I'm going with the kids to see the American Gold Cup today at the fancy-schmancy barn/facility near us today. Should be fun - in the AM they have family events like face painting, magic shows, horseless jumping of the course, etc. We'll see how long DD and DS let me actually watch the eventing that starts at 1😄
Beth - I hope your show is going well! What kinds of things are you displaying? Do you make quilts (I love homemade quilts!)?
Amy - I'm glad your clinic was a success. I'm also glad you figured out that pony! I wonder why it is that ponies tend to be so tricky, personality wise? Maybe it's like the small dog/big personality thing??
Cathy - How are your cabinets coming along?? I thought I'd finish up my sanding yesterday; alas, I decided that one more area of the wall could stand an extra layer of spackle😥 I asked DH extra-special-nicely if he would sand that part for me - he agreed! Hooray!
Faye - I guess I didn't realize you were in the NY metro area, too! Hasn't this weather been amazing??
Dutch - I hope everything with Ally is going well. You have a little DS, right? Is he loving his new sister??☺️
Waving to everyone else who makes their way over; have a great day!

AMY-thanks for starting. glad you enjoyed the pony. ALLISON-have fun at the show today. hope you get to see it. I'm about an hour from the city. Glad DH is helping with the sanding. are you sore from all the work? BARB posted a lovely photo of Miami . I believe she's back home tomorrow LIBBY-loved the photo. hope everyone is having a great time. CATHY-how are the cabinets coming? are you painting them and if so, what color? how was harp lesson? did you up it to 45 min? BETH-hope the show is going well. DUTCH-have fun with Ally. now that you have her, have you thought of a name?
going to tea with DH and DD. HAGD

Good afternoon. Yesterday was a very long and tiring day. Also It was very hot and humid here in Decatur AL. After we got the booth partially set up we got out room at the motel and rested about an hour before going for supper and then getting back to the show grounds. It is an indoor arena so my booth is inside. If you would like to know more about the show you can google Racking Horse Celebration. The arena is the Morgan County Celebration arena and they have pictures on their website. Beth - I hope your show is going well! What kinds of things are you displaying? Do you make quilts (I love homemade quilts!)? Allison I am an embroiderer/monogrammer and do embroidery onsite. I have a 6 needle Brother PR620 machine. I don't make quilts. I have other items like totes, koozies (cup holders) and lots of caps. That is a form of advertising here. You get your horse's name put on a cap then wear it around. If you sell that horse and get another one then you need another cap with the new horse on it. Last night I had a customer come by and asked how much I wanted for ALL of my dog bandannas. I said make me an offer and they did. I took the offer so now I have no more bandannas. That's just one less thing I have to monogram on. I think I did 15 caps last night and last night was the opening night. For you newer people, Racking Horses show at night. The show starts at 6pm every night with the Grand Championship culminating on Saturday the 24th.
