Good morning!
I woke up way too early for me, so here I sit on the computer. It's going to be a long day.
WF and I got a nice walk in. Her hip is still bothering her. I really wish she would go get it checked by her doctor. The ER did a horrible job and just gave her pills and sent her home.
We had our first BLT of the season last night. We also ate fresh corn on the cob and salad. It was delicious. I honestly could eat BLTs every day during tomato season. Our tomatoes are slow coming in, so I will have to buy some at the FM this afternoon.
Baseball tonight and tomorrow night, however it is supposed to rain tomorrow and I'm all for it.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Howdy!
Yesterday was a much better day. My boss pitched in and helped me on a few projects, so I could focus on a big project. I don’t feel like I’m absolutely drowning anymore. He’s such a good guy. Phone-It-In-Gal will be gone by the end of the month, and we’re planning to hire someone new. There’s not a lot that can be done about BabyMama right now. Not that we can think of anyway. It’s just a tough situation.
I miss sleeping. I was wide awake at 2:00 a.m. again. My brain wasn’t whirring; I was just awake. Hopefully I’ll be tired enough tonight to sleep until the completely reasonable hour of 4:30. 😝
Yesterday I was so excited that our highs were only going to be around 93° for a few days. That has been cancelled. Pfffft!
Have a great day!

Happy Hump Day!
Had a nice 7.7 mile walk with my friend yesterday. It wasn't nearly as hot and humid as when we had hiked together back in June. Only 2 trees down on the trails but no big deal to get over them. Some muddy patches, but nothing like I have experienced up in Wisconsin. Then I got a shower and sorted out some more paperwork. I really hope the reimbursement from the conference shows up before I leave for Colorado otherwise I will need to move money from someplace else to cover my credit card bill. I got my receipts turned in as soon as they sent out the form.
Today I am going to tackle the jungle in our yard. There likely will be round two either tomorrow or Friday. Ugh.
Have a great day!

Morning.
Yesterday included a long nap after work. Then CSO texted to say she was in town with her Stepdaughter and Grandson walking around playing Pokemon. So I took Ripley and we went downtown to join them and get some wandering in. YMV met up with us on the way and stayed to chat for the walk. Almost 4 miles later, we got home. Ripley did so well with the group of people (6 of us total) and didn't react to anyone at all once we were in our group. There was one other barky dog that set her off before we met up with the group that she got riled up about. But even cats and rabbits that normally would have at least elicited a bark didn't get more than perked ears. MG stayed home and shoveled gravel into the moat at the base of our cement drive. He was worn out by the time we got back. Tonight is tacos and game night with the group. It's YF's bday and her niece just will be getting here from WA today.
This weekend she wants to take her niece to Despicable Me 4, so I'm sure we'll be doing that. I missed my nail appointment 2 weeks ago because of the holiday and rescheduling. I cannot wait to get them redone as they are a little longer than I'm used to and I can tell they are getting...tight. Tight is the only word I have to describe it. I have a very pronounce arch in my nail bed and they flatten slightly after they get past the point of connection. The gel she uses on them doesn't allow them to flatten naturally and so it puts a little pressure on the tips of my fingers. I had only had them on this long one other time when she had a medical emergency and I went 4+ weeks between manicures. That time they were so tight that zipping my jeans hurt. I'm not that bad off yet. So I will be able to last 2 more days.
The deck is coming along! The floor is completely in place. He laid the railings (still in the wrappers) onto the porch perimeter to be installed next time he gets there. The stairs still need to be installed too, but it's getting SOOOOOCLOSE! I know Ripley is looking forward to having her yard back to herself. It has cooled slightly in the evenings this week, so I'm hoping to get out and work on the shed. I also want to get some mulch bought for the flower beds and do some general cleanup once he's gone. Between painting and construction, a lot has been let go this summer. Dad had stopped by to inspect the work and went "dumpster diving" in the lumber from the old deck. I need to talk to the deck guy about the scraps of wood that will be leftover as I can squirrel them away for woodworking projects. In fact, I was remembering last night that I had a dream about a couch size design using baby mattresses for cushions. Hmmm I need to wargame what that would take to make it work. Because I don't have enough projects in the wings.///
I need to GMST with Jump In July. I've faceplanted this last week and I can feel it.

Good Morning Ladies: Nice long walk with the babies this am. Today is lunch with my neighbor. Sleep was a little better. I assume it is the new diabetes med from doc. LOL I have to go wet my hair before lunch to smooth out the kinks. Looks like I am trying to bring back the blonde fro.

Good morning, Welp, I hurried down to Aldi this morning to pick up cooling towels to send to my sisters, and they hadn't put them out yet. I dilly dallied around for quite awhile but still in delivery-to-shelf limbo. I'll go to a different one a bit later today. I did pick up the vionic hairdryer that has a diffuser for curly hair for $16, so that's a big score. Also cherries are still on sale, so loaded up. No chocolate, no cheese, no chips!!!
Before I went to Aldi, I popped over for a mid-summer group birdwalk around the North Pond environs. We had 3 Great Blue Herons flying around and landing in various trees. A bit later a juvenile Peregrine Falcon was practicing aerial gyrations and diving until a Herring Gull came and chased him-it was amazing watching them wheel around and dive at each other. I didn't stay for the whole walk.
On the way home from Aldi, I saw one of my bird photographer friends by the Night Heron rookery, and stopped to chat with him. I got to meet the head of the Night Heron oversight project at the Zoo. It was so interesting to hear about the initiatives they've been working on, this year and for future breeding seasons. Banding and GPS tracker programs to try to collect data about travelling patterns, health comparisons between urban and ex-urban populations, among others. I had some bird nerd moments hearing his enthusiasm and passion for helping and learning more about these cool birds.

Howdy!
My brother sent me a message saying Dad’s hospice nurse thinks that he has given up since his birthday has passed (July 5) and that the end is near. He’s on morphine all the time. It makes me sad, but he hasn’t spoken to me in almost 30 years, so it’s not like we were close. He and my late step-mother were very Baptist and I was Living In Sin, i.e., no longer existed as far as they were concerned.
In sort of happier news, the BabyMama in my department thinks she may be having twins. Both her mom and her sister were pregnant with twins, had rough pregnancies, and only delivered one baby. (BabyMama herself was the twin who made it all the way to birthing.) BabyMama had a very rough pregnancy with her 10 month old and was on bed rest for the last couple of months of it, so this doesn’t bode well. I really, really like her and hope it goes well. Meanwhile, I need to figure out how to get the work done.
I’m glad the weekend is getting closer. I have a hair appointment Saturday, which is one of the best things ever.
Enjoy your day!

Greetings!
I'm sore from the odd positions I was in yesterday while weeding. I feel like I didn't get much done although I did fill up a yard waste bag. I was doing some very tedious weeding pulling out bits of grass that have infiltrated two of my beds. It is hard to get the roots out so this is an ongoing battle. I swear the thistles that I dealt with several years ago were easier to eliminate. I also pulled a bunch of tiny little tree sprouts back by where I'm trying to get my coneflowers established. That took forever too. I will do more tomorrow and then probably one more pass before I leave town.
Got a bunch of errands done in the afternoon. Then I spent time researching bike routes for when my cousin and I are in Dillon. I will do the 20+ mile loop around the reservoir and also hope to do the ride up to Loveland pass. That will be a thigh-burner. I remember skiing at Loveland with DH before we got married and the temps never got above 0 degrees. We only did 4 runs that day because it was so bitterly cold!
Today I will be on campus. After today, I will only be on campus 4 more times before my big trip!
Have a great day!

Morning.
Yesterday was nice. YF and her inlaws went to KC to pick up her niece. I met up with CSO at the coffeeshop and we had taco salads ready for game night by the time they arrived in Mayberry. We played games for a couple hours, ate supper and a delicious gf PB chocolate cake, and then got everything cleaned up. By that time YF & Fam were tired and headed home. CSO, YMV, & I went out walking and playing Pokemon. We got in a couple of miles and were done for by the time we got back to our cars. Then I stayed up much too late watching the latenight shows that were delayed because of the RNC. That alarm going off so early in the morning suxrox.
Coffee.

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was busy, and today will be too. I have put off too many prep things for my trip. Lunch was fabulous yesterday. Broiled shrimp, hush puppies and cheese grits. I finished less than half...so leftovers for tonight. Had DD over and made lemon garlic pork loin, pickled red cabbage w/apples (in a jar) and mashed potatoes for dinner. Tasted very German as it should as it all came from Aldi's. The kids had already been here couple of days.

Hi, Yest: Tracking streak day 56 GHGs yes Activity yes Liquid yes WI today. Up .2. I'm hovering at around the same weight for the past few weeks, my knees are feeling better so I can pick up my walking pace again. Sadly, I went to a different Aldi in the afternoon to get the cooling towels for my sisters, and was unable to resist the lure of the white chocolate mini bars.
Then later on I had a total freak out meltdown over the political situation. I was able to let it out on my sisters' thread, but I'm still feeling shaky today.
Roses is away, and I think Sophia has been busy w work since she got back from Africa, I have only seen her once. There's no soccer pub now for a month. I miss having my Sweetie around to take care of and interact with. I spent some time looking at cats on the Anti-Cruelty site this morning. I think I'm going to go down and look at a few of them, they open at noon. I can't take on a senior cat at this time, but I'm thinking a 3-5 year old might be right. The cats I am eyeballing are all new, and there's virtually no info on them on their website yet, so I'll just need to go see them and go with my gut. I also need to find a different vet, because I ended up hating the one I had been going to. I went to them initially as they had a cooperative deal for the first check-up after I got Sweetie, but got bought by a corporate entity after Covid. I need to start making a list, and doing a deep clean and check out The Underbed drawers, etc.
More to come.

Howdy!
I told bossman about Dad’s situation yesterday. He also has a crappy dad so he gets it. I’m not going to attend a funeral or any of that, but I’m feeling sad about all the choices Dad made (i.e., not speaking to me for years every time I made a decision he disagreed with) so I may need a day to mope around and deal with that. I haven’t heard anything from my brother, so I assume the situation hasn’t changed.
We may have found a new hire. Bossman and I each had a call with her yesterday, and she’s coming to have coffee with us this morning. Bossman says he’s going to tell her she needs to be my right hand and work at least as hard as I do, and he’ll make the job offer if she’s good with that. Do I have the best boss in the world or what?
I’m looking forward to some quiet woodworking over the weekend, along with hair and nail appointments. I’ll look all cute with nice hair and nails as I’m sweating in my garage. 😁
Have a great day!

TGIF!
I had a productive day on campus and even started to look at my course materials for the A&P class from hell. Today is more weeding and then I'm going to try to clean some of the siding at the rental property that is discolored from moss/mildew/something greenish. I got a hose-end product so hopefully that does the trick.
I will have to go to campus again in the afternoon as we have prospective adjunct coming in to talk about fall courses. She was my PCP way back in the 1990's! Small world.
Colorado and altitude acclimation is on my mind as yesterday a dear friend who lives out there tried to summit a 14er that was her sister's favorite. Her sister got that crazy Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) and died recently. My friend got to 13,000 feet and had to quit due to nausea and headache. My friend lives at 6,000 feet but I don't think she did much preparation for the higher altitude. She had one hike at 11,000 feet recently. My cousin has laid out a much longer preparation for our 14er attempt. But I'm still obsessing. I'm going to start eating more red meat for the heme iron and will also bump up my hydration. I also read that getting more potassium from food is good so will start eating more potatoes (I hate bananas). Baked potatoes NOT fries! I will make a batch of beef stew that will check off both the red meat and potato boxes!
Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: I am packed and ready to go except for a couple of things at the store. Also need a stop at the vets for Heidi's arthritis chews. Had Zack load most of car yesterday (except my one case and the fridge stuff). Had a lovely day out with a friend. We went to the local mall to visit a Paparazzi jewelry shop where we will have our meetup in August and we will have our meeting in the middle of the food court with a dozen places to choose to eat our lunch. I had Oriental food yesterday and will be taking 2/3 of it with me for snacking purposes for someone. Should be a ton of fun. One of our ladies had to quit due to health and Ilene and I are filling in her month for her. Each person gets to choose to do whatever they want for the month. There will be games and gifts and a drawing for one of the necklace sets that will be red hat appropriate. I leave for the resort at about 3. Babies are covered and less kids than I was planning on are coming, so should be smooth sailing. Hot tub here I come.

Happy Friday!
I have been down with a resurgence of diverticulitis. I did not go to the hospital--I gave myself a timeline of recovery, and if it wasn't happening, I would go. I have been following a strict clear liquid diet for days. Last night I added a plain baked potato. That was the first calories I have had in days. I feel so much better. I am glad to have avoided being in the hospital. I will take a nap this afternoon and see where we go from there.
Needless to say, I have done nothing about exercise or fun the last few days. Maybe by Monday I will be up for real life again. We only have one more week of baseball and I don't want to miss it.
I hope you all have a great day!

Hello weekend!
Wowza, it was another busy week. I got 2 more yard waste bags filled yesterday mostly from trimming back bushes on the other side of our yard as well as picking up the numerous little branches that the river birch lost thanks both to the cicadas and the high winds. Then I went over to the rental property and got that siding cleaned. That was super easy with the stuff I bought and now I wish I'd done it last year as it looks so nice! Next up was an unplanned trip to the laundromat to wash our hallway runner and my gardening clothing.
After all that stuff, I got to the university shortly after 2pm. It was so great seeing my former doctor again! We (me + 2 other colleagues) had a great conversation about what she will be teaching (upper level anatomy lab) as well as history of the university as she was in the first class when the monks decided to make the institution co-ed!
Then I came home and make another batch of cookies as we have our friends coming over today for lunch. We will get carryout from the Mexican place we all like.
I was absolutely exhausted and was in bed by 7pm. This morning I'm walking with two other friends at Waterfall Glen so we can all catch up. Tomorrow will be a bike ride.
In 2 weeks I will be on the road heading west. I have so many things that I need to wrap up. Good thing I'm not teaching this summer.
Have a great day!

Howdy!
I think I broke the middle finger on my right hand. I tripped over something that should not have been in the floor in our shop area at work, and caught myself on the wall. I need to google to see if there’s any reason to see a doctor. Right now it is taped up with the handle of a spork I found in the kitchen because we don’t have any popsicles. 😝
I’m going to miss the community garden workday because of this finger thing. Darn. I don’t get to spend hours out in the heat doing manual labor.
Our potential new hire accepted our job offer and starts on Aug 5. Yay! Oddly enough, she and I worked for the same company at different times. The world is small, eh?
Have a great day!

Hi, Cat process still in process. On the fence about things, more later. My biggest worry right now is about age. I don't want an active jumper, since I worry about unanchored bookcases as room dividers. Also, I don't want someone who'll shred the doorscreens, I can't exist with closed sliders. Not a lot of back info on the cats I've seen. May try a week at home trial they offer. All good w tracking/ got a long bird walk in early yesterday. Saw 5 different Great Blue Herons! newmoose feel better soon! sherrydorlando enjoy your getaway, hope it goes smoothly! gadgetgirlil good luck w your altitude training. V , I look forward to finished deck pix! pepper , to reiterate, yes I'd get my finger looked at. You need a record in case something is wrong, since it happened at work. You need to protect yourself.

pepper, there wasn't any funeral or service. My 2 younger sisters went to see him towards the end in the NH, and said they pretty much only went at that point to have a sisters meet-up in NYC together. The last time I saw him, I was walking into a store in NYC and he held the door open for me as he was coming out. I recognized him as I said thank you, he didn't even look at me as he said you're welcome and walked out the door. He was just being polite and going on his way. I let him go. I would have had nothing to say to him. That was in 2005.

Good morning! I am about 90% right now, maybe even 95%. I will know more when today unfolds. We are going to a friends for a cookout. I will eat sparingly, but will do real food. I have eaten next to nothing for 3 days and am actually hungry. I know better than to go overboard, but a little will be nice. gadgetgirlil, I have no idea what sent this over the edge. I really have been eating well, but maybe not enough probiotics. I will increase my yogurt and good stuff as my eating progresses. It will be interesting to see what the scale says. I told DH that I bet that it didn't move at all, but he disagreed. It doesn't matter. It matters that I get well. We are finally getting some rain. I wish that I had taken pictures of how brown our yard was and how much greener it already is. My Dutch BIL, who lives in AZ, wondered how often we watered our lawn. I told him "never". The grass gets brown and crunchy, but rain always brings it back. We have had to water our garden, but that couldn't be helped in this drought. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Greetings! Heading out for my longer bike route down to Oak Forest this morning. It is all on bike trails except the first 2 miles. It is a route I designed and got approved several years ago. About 68 miles so will be good training for the ride in Nebraska in 2 weeks which is about 72 miles. Weather looks good again today! Had a nice walk with my friends. We ended up doing 9.5 miles. We made plans to get together over Labor Day weekend to celebrate the one woman's birthday! These are women that I used to run with so I'm grateful that they are also willing to just go for long walks with me. We talked a lot about the changes that aging brings, not only in terms of physical stuff, but also changes in social connections as well as dealing with the losses of family members, both in terms of death as well as relationships that break down. Then I got a shower and got the Mexican food. Nice chatting with our friends about all sorts of things. We will also see them again over Labor Day weekend as that is the best weekend for me since I don't have a Monday class prep. Cyn - I was thinking about what you wrote about cats and not knowing their true personalities. Allie is the 7th cat to be in my life. They have all been different, quirky and loveable. Tabbies seem to be the most mellow of the bunch (Loretta is a tabby as was Sierra). Loretta had exactly one jumping incident that knocked a plant down. Scared her so much that she never did that again. Poor Sierra was such a scaredy cat that she never did anything bad. Torties are beautiful but oh my, Tortitude is a real thing. Allie can jump but we were able to train her to stay off the kitchen counters and island. Allie's biggest issue is not wanting to share the house with Loretta. Bottomline, I'm sure there is the right kitty out there for you that just wants to be a love bug and won't go crazy on your bookshelves and screens. You can always try fostering for a short period to see if it is the right fit. I wish you all the best at finding a new companion. I personally can't live in a house without a cat. Have a great day!

Howdy!
Having a broken finger is inconvenient as crap. I can’t figure out how to use a fork without my splint hitting the plate. I’m supposed to use the splint for a couple of weeks, but if the sprained part (the upper part of my finger) is feeling better I’m going back to my spork-and-tape splint. The fracture is in the middle section, so it will be fine with the spork splint.
It’s always weird to me how a small injury can make the whole body seem “off”. I was worthless yesterday. I got a haircut so I was pretty and worthless, but still worthless,. 😝
Mom may or may not want to get her nails done today. Trying to work around her “I want to!” then “Nah, I don’t want to” gets annoyous. I’m going to try some wood working, so if she wants to go, I’ll shower and we’ll go.
Have a great day!

Morning. Work this morning was annoyous. For the first 3 hours I didn't have a computer because of the Crowdstrike outage that took out my desktop. Then I couldn't even log on because my computer is what knows me and has all my access. So I worked on a company computer with limited access until my boss got his shit together and came in to fix it. The other girls had gone all weekend standing at a "kiosk" instead of at our desk. I have no clue how any of them functioned. Add to it that the regular guy I work well with is on vacation and the ditzy woman who drives me crazy is in his spot. Fortunately she hasn't messed up things yet this morning and I'm at a low buzz from only hearing her voice. This weekend we got out with YF's inlaws and her young niece. We got out on the trail for a bit. The weather has been amazingly mild 70-80's for July in Kansas. Deck guy has been working too much to get back and work on the railing for the deck, so no dice yet. But he should be here by Tuesday hopefully. ZOMG! Cyn!!! I made the Longevity salad last night and had it for lunch today! Soooo goood! I didn't make the couscous (gluten) or quinoa in its place, but as is it's so tasty. I will have to cook up some quinoa to bulk it up a bit, but I was really sad that the 1/2c I brought was gone so quickly. I love the dill-dijon dressing. I also made a grilled corn salad with other veggies and feta. It was good, but nowhere near your recipe.
