Happy New Year! Yesterday was the start of the 24/25 Premier League s3ason! First Newcastle match this morning, I'm excited to see one of my footy guys 'down the pub' for the match a bit later. It's in the 70's, but humid and gross out. Ugh. Off the feed and do the litter boxes next door, then , bit more playing w my Queenie before venturing out.
Have a good Saturday, everyone!

Good Morning Ladies: Last night was our first Magical Dining of the year and I think it was the best ever. I had charcoal grilled pork ribeye with pickled beets and cheese grits with 5 kinds of cheeses and shallots and something, mushroom crepes for app with something something and something; and orange bread pudding with BB topping and chantilly cream and toasted pistachios.(OMG) Only they described each course with about a paragraph. I couldn't eat even half of it all) Today is laundry and to store for something I forgot the other day. I did manage to go up and down the stairs 6 extra times in prep for eating out. and yes, I did notice I did manage to remember the description of 90% on the dessert only....LOL

Morning!
I stayed home sick on Thursday. I think part of that was the bad attitude about all the junk that needed to be addressed around the house. But I slept like the dead for all of Wednesday and the better part of Thursday. The girls had talked about getting out for a run, but I just hunkered down in bed and ignored everything. I needed it. Friday morning, I got out with YF after getting a late start on nails. I didn't realize it had been 2 weeks, so my regular appointment was then and nearly missed going. My mani texted about 5 min after the appointment started and I had to throw on clothes and rush out the door. Thankfully I was already awake.
YF and I got out on the start of the trail and neither of us were particularly motivated, but I set my watch for the program. When the warmup finished, I was still not particularly feeling it but decided to give the 1 mile a go. I only managed about a quarter at a time, but we got through it. Then breakfast afterward and home. That night we got together again. CSO had news, so we went to sit in her deli and brought Mexican food to eat before a local street party in a neighboring town. She told us that the County job she had done before she opened the shop was vacant and that she'd been approached about filling it for the next 10 months.
Back story (skip - it gets bloggy) I was hired in the Appraiser's office when I came back to Mayberry (30 YEARS ago?? how?). The boss I had seemed ok at first. Another person was hired and she and I became friends. She was anointed by BossLady and the fourth woman in the office that had been Bosslady's whipping post moved to a different position. I became the new hated employee. CSO was hired about the same time. I left to get away from Bosslady and went to work at the railroad. The three of us, the other person, CSO, & I, were good friends within a larger group for years and even got matching tattoos. Divorces, deaths, job changes, and life happened. There was a falling out that I never completely understood. CSO had moved into Bosslady position and then the friend took over the job at some later point (this is where the hard feeling come in) & CSO moved to the same position in a neighboring county commuting an hour to work. CSO eventually bought the coffeeshop and quit the job altogether. The friend has been in the paper the last few months with investigations about her misuse and misreporting of PTO along with intraoffice politic regarding her treatment of staff. The cousin she had hired as her deputy resigned last month. This month she was fired. /endblog
CSO has been sinking money into the coffeeshop lately just to keep it afloat. She had the shop listed with a realtor since February. It also has a couple of apartments above it and after 5 years she's looking toward retiring. The job offered would only be guaranteed for the next 10 months before they could review her contract and potentially offer her another yearly contract pending her certification (which should be no problem, just some continuing ed with the state). She would also take the best of her baristas with her to the county job. It would be a huge opportunity for Madison and also give her retirement with KPERS and County insurance. BUT I WOULD MISS HER MAKING MY COFFEE. After talking to the commissioners about what her coffeeshop would require of her for the next 10 months and the issues of raising her grandkids that are in high school, she has accepted the position on the temporary basis. So this is pretty bittersweet. CSO will have a much more relaxing steady 9-5 so that she will be able to take care of herself better. But in the meantime she will maintain the coffeeshop as well, so there will be a lot of balls in the air. And it will affect my coffee fix. /endwhine
After our chat and nosh, we went to the Beattie Milo Festival. They had a 1.5 mile glow run, baseball tourney, cornhole competition, turtle race, frog jumping contest, and street fair. YF, CSO, and I did the glow run and we all did really well. They finished over a mile before they stopped running to walk about a tenth. I did 30x30's and had a better time than I had that morning. They were only about 2 blocks ahead of me for most of the race until we hit about the last half or quarter mile. They came back for me about the last block once they'd finished their race and cheered me in.
Saturday I stayed in jammies all day long. As was my right on my Butterfat day. Around 4 we packed things up and went to the coffeeshop for game night and a little birthday party. MamaV was there and a couple of the game night guys joined us. MG had brought a cake and treats from a gf grocer in KC along with Joe's BBQ and ice cream. There was a potato bar with taco meat and all the fixings and there were veggies and hummus. I told YMV that his present to me would be moving the pavers to the back side of the shed and helping me clean up the construction mess that has been littering the outside of the house for far too long. My present from MG was a Kamala t shirt where the kitties are peeking out from behind the letters. All in all, it was lovely. MG has been doing PT and left shortly after cake was finished. The group of us went for a walk in the park because several of us play Pokemon and we had fun doing that. Boy it was humid, but still a reasonable temperature for mid-August. My only problem was that I didn't choose my footwear well for a walk and the flipflops rubbed some small hot spots between my toes.
Today is looking up and I'm wearing the pearl earrings MG got me for Christmas with my new Kamala shirt.

Greetings from Grand Island, Nebraska! I just caught up on my FB posts for Friday's hike and yesterday's bike ride. I need to get moving as I have 585 more miles to drive to get home. But I have been enjoying not having to rush out for a hike or a bike. I even slept until 6am! Obviously I needed it. There were way too many early risings during the time with my cousin. I thought of you V yesterday on my bike ride as US 30 parallels a freight line. Wowza, those freight trains are LONG. The one train I saw had engines in the middle and another engine at the end. All were running. It was a little sad to see what I-80 did to the towns along US 30. Kimball, NE had several abandoned motels and other buildings since the only traffic these days are the locals. The tourists all zoom by on I-80. Tomorrow is back to reality. Ugh. Have a great day!

Howdy!
I didn’t accomplish much yesterday, but that’s not a bad thing.
Mom must be feeling a bit perkier because she wants to get her nails done today. I’m going to take a trip to the community garden this morning before it gets hot(ter) outside. I still haven’t done my fall planting. I also still don’t know which of the “pantry plots” is mine to take care of. Hopefully I’ll know by next weekend so I can take care of my plot and the pantry plot planting. The triple digit temps will end eventually. Surely.
I bought some oak lumber yesterday. Hopefully I’ll get some play time in today.
Enjoy your day!

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was resting/busy. Got downstairs vaced and mopped. Got some groc. Reading a good book (audio you know that) "The Heiress" by Rachel Hawkins. Def recommend it. Got my world news in with Stephen Colbert--love that man. So it was a good day.

Good morning!
We had such a great day with our friends and our dogs! We drove by where DS2 used to work and reminisced about his days at the park. He's in a much better place now, but we loved having him close enough to see frequently.
No plans, for now, for today. I tweaked my back in some unknown way, so I am sitting with an ice pack right now. Hopefully, getting up and moving will help it feel better.
I hope you all have a great day!

Howdy!
Do you all have Dollar Tree stores where you live? Mom loves that place. We walked up and down each aisle for almost an hour yesterday. As long as Mom has something to hold her up like a grocery cart, she isn’t in pain. That was the most walking she has done in years.
That was followed by mani/pedis at the very busy salon. We were gone for 3 hours, which took a bigger than planned chunk out of my day. I didn’t get to do any woodworking, but it was good to see Mom feeling good enough to be out and about.
This week will be busy. Surprise! 😁
Have a great day!

Greetings!
I got back home yesterday around 5:45pm. Had the car unloaded by 6:15pm. I only unpacked the bare essentials. I'll work on putting all my gear away during the week.
It sure was a long drive, at least 585 miles. Looks like I drove nearly 3,000 miles during my trip when I include all the drives to trailheads. I had some rain in Nebraska but otherwise it was a very smooth drive. I did have to stop numerous times for caffeine, snacks, and restroom breaks.
I'm still very tired today so I hope no one expects anything from me when I get on campus.
Have a great day!

Good morning!
I actually got to work early today so I could work on these IEPs coming due. I have some finishing touches to do on the one that I am meeting for tomorrow. I haven't even started on the one that is happening Thursday. I will start on it today. Luckily, I can write one fairly quickly once I get in the groove.
We ended up staying home all day. It was raining most of the afternoon and DH really wanted to stay home. I just iced my back and watched TV. At least I ate healthier foods--not bar food.
No big plans for the week or the weekend. It's the last weekend before football and music festivals start back up, so I think we may just chill out.
I hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was a tiny bit cooler...but it can't fool me...it's still August in Fl. I got my jobs in the house done and some reading, TV, solitaire tournament, jigsaw puzzles and started watching Dexter.....then I was hooked! I didn't have Showtime, so never saw it. Watched 5 episodes so the 8 seasons won't take long, but I hear there is a sequel.

Morning.
Yesterday was quiet and rainy. The girls didn't get together for yoga last night, so I stayed lazy. I just couldn't make myself to 2 different things inside when it was rainy to make the 3/4/5. I'm glad next week is a 3 week for us.

Where y’all getting all the rain???
😁
It is too hot for words here. It was 106° here yesterday. The weather man said the humidity was low so the “feels like” temp was only 109°. Only 109. Only.
Summer can’t end soon enough.
Furniture school is tonight. We get to start a new project — fancypants saw horses that are joined without nails or glue. I’m pretty excited.
Have a great day!

Greetings!
So much for precedent, our opening meeting with the president was actually yesterday, not today. As long as I have been with the university, it has been on Tuesday. I didn't go as by the time I got to campus and worked through 231 new emails (half could be deleted just by looking at subject line), I didn't give a damn. Later they sent out a Zoom link to have a session with the president for those who didn't attend. I did do that and there were 3-4 others on the call. It was good to get hear the highlights about what was covered in the morning session.
Today is the meeting with the new provost which will take all morning. Tomorrow is our college meeting which again will take all morning. At some point I need to get ready for my classes.
I unpacked a few more things yesterday and then a few more things this morning. I eventually will get all my crap put away!
Have a great day!

Morning.
I was supposed to get out with CSO for a mellow walk when she finished up for the evening. She chose a glass of three of wine over my company. And I can't say I blame her. MG went to the doctor yesterday afternoon. He's in the Medicare donut at this point and the $1k for the BS prescription is an issue. The Dr gave him some samples to get him partway through the lapse. It's just so frustrating.
Hopefully with the school year starting and kids not being available during the day, YMV will finally find a J O B. Until then, he will be cleaning up around the outside of the house. I'll also get some black enamel spray paint so he can "play" a little, making the deck chairs nicer (considering their age and condition).
I set up a seating area on the patio so that when I let Ripley out into the yard I have a place to sit and supervise her. She is not at all interested in getting out of her area or running away (unlike Draco who loved nothing more than a good walkabout). I was even able to open the gate to drag the furniture in the pen and leave it as I made multiple trips. MG is so sure that she will bolt if given the least opportunity, but she's not smart or brave enough.
Tonight should be a 5k to finish the last day of the Run Across America challenge. YF said she would need the run to get out some bad juju this afternoon, so it should be easy to get moving.

Good morning!
Today is the end of our second week of school--10 whole days! It's been a busy time.
I stayed up way too late watching Joe Biden's speech. I am really glad I did.
I need to find something to make for dinner tonight. We are still trying to use food we already have in the freezer. I just need to keep DH from buying stuff all the time. For instance, I bought a dozen eggs from a friend the other day, and come home to find precooked hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator. They were "on sale"! He's the one worried about money, since we are both making less than we were, but spending more than I ever do.
I need to look at the Run for America app and see if there is any way that I can make my goal. I doubt it, but maybe I'll try.
The weather here is heavenly! The high is in the low 70's and the lows in the low 50's-high 40's. I am sorry that you all can't be here to experience this.
I hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was a nice one. Today is bookclub. I made my neighbor a no-bake cherry cheesecake as it is her favorite thing. The new knee is not going that well and she is really down. Went to Aldi's, did a few chorse and then settled in with Dexter...LOL

Happy Humpday!
I haven't worked a 5-day week in a very long time so this is brutal. And I know I will have to go in over the weekend in order to be ready to teach at 9:30am on Monday. Ugh.
On a positive note, one of my quiet, but very smart students from last year emailed me while I was out of town. She was interested in being a Learning Assistant for my class. This is a formal program that the university offers that has the students participate in a weekly pedagogical seminar along with assisting in the classroom. Even though we were beyond the application window, the director fit us in! I have to go to a mentor workshop tomorrow to learn more about how all this works. I'm hopeful that this fall won't be as bad as last year's was.
Yesterday's meeting with the provost was good, although she misjudged the time requirements for the group activity so had to cut that short. We were working at our tables on the topic of Radical Hospitality. Yes, buzzwords are everywhere. Hospitality is part of our Benedictine tradition, no need to add "radical" to it. I was 5 minutes late but wasn't the only person to walk in late. Today's goal is to actually be on time for the college meeting today. Apparently knowing that I will be retiring makes me less concerned about certain things since there are likely no consequences for showing up to a group meeting late. I obviously do not treat my teaching the same way as I'm always at least 15 minutes early for my classes since I never know when the AV system will freak out.
Still plodding through unpacking and trying to catch up on errands. I did get my rejuvenated wedding rings back yesterday. They look lovely! Today's goal is to get the rent checks deposited before I head to campus. Baby steps.....
Have a great day!

Howdy! newmoose, a friend of mine just returned from a family reunion in NC. He said he’s been enjoying his mornings on the porch with temps in the 60s. Nice! When I got home last night Mom was raving about Michelle Obama’s speech. I’m so glad politics is taking such a nice turn. The last few years have been horrible for this country. School was good last night. My hands still feel like they’re vibrating from using plunge routers. I’ll bet people do all kinds of damage with some of the equipment we’ve learned to use when they just bring it home from the store, take it out of the box and plug it in. We only have two classes left, which I’m sad about. I need to get moving. Have a great day!

Good morning! pepper, I, too, raved about Michelle Obama's speech. I was cheering while she spoke, like I was at a football game. It was uplifting and inspirational. I felt like we could do anything together if we put all that energy to good use. I have got to start getting out with the dogs after work. I have been so tired when I get home, that I just deep couch sit for hours. I need to put myself into a routine where that isn't acceptable. I know the dogs would prefer a walk with me, to watching TV with me. I will try to get started on that tomorrow... Today is my dad's, and his twin brother's, 92nd birthday. I am so blessed to have him in such good health and humor. My boys and I are going to do a video call with him this afternoon--DH, too, if he is home by then. There will be ice cream tonight as a celebration. Dad loves ice cream, saying, "there's always room for ice cream" after dinner. I try to celebrate him every year with ice cream, since I am never there to celebrate in person. DH and I will go to trivia tonight. Hopefully it will be as much fun as it was last week. I better go finish an IEP. Have a great day!

Morning.
Yesterday was quiet again. The deck guy has been running his butt off at work, so he hasn't gotten back to replace the steps.
I had stayed up so late watching Joe's speech that I napped hard after work. Then I almost missed out on getting my RAA mileage in because YF had unexpected company. So I (gasp!) got on my sta bike and watched Obama's speech and again stayed up way too late to see all the rest. But I got in 7 miles with the bike and that pushed me over the top with my (adjusted back to 100k) goal for the challenge.
I got my Kansas Women for Kamala Harris shirt in the mail yesterday and am wearing it today. Rather than an in-your-face shirt, it is sunflowers surrounded by a ring that resembles a pearl necklace. Understated and comfortably worn even after the election is over no matter the outcome. I also got one for MamaV. She will love it.
I need to get out tonight for a run if I'm going to keep up with my program and be prepared for the race this Saturday. YF's Mom has a form of Parkinsons and this race supports a local hospice unit. CSO is doing the 10k and YF & I are doing 5.
Have a great day!

Hi! Busy with the 3 cats, catching up w the convention speeches, and got myself outside yesterday for a long walkabout. It was in mid afternoon, tho, and not an active time for most birds. I miss my early morning quiet, but juggling 2 different cat routines is in the way right now. Weather is perfect here, and RosesWalk a little later 🙂. Off to Aldi w Mr Wheelie now-I'll put on my iPod and boogie my way there and back. 💃🎵
