Good morning!
We had a wonderful weekend! We had fun, but we also got some rest. The best of both worlds!
It will be a less busy week here at work, but I still have paperwork to do. I have 5 IEPs and one Review of Records to do in the next month. This is a month that has a day off (Labor Day) and two early dismissals (that I am supposed to leave when the students leave). Also, I am taking a day off on the 20th for a festival. I feel like I am going to be rushed all September.
Not much is going on this week, other than work, and I am here for it. I was going to go walk the dogs in the evening, but summer has decided to rear its ugly head again. I'll see how it feels after dinner tonight.
I hope you all have a great day!

I signed up for a group bird walk at the sanctuary about a mile away this morning, and boy was it rough in the heat and humidity. There wasn't a lot of shade available in the main viewing area, TG for my hat and cooling towels. Looks like another A/C afternoon at our house.

Howdy!
Our weather has turned so nice (mid 90s for highs) that it feels like Spring. 😁 Air conditioners typically only cool to about 20 -25 degrees below the outside temperature. I think yesterday was the first day in a while that my AC has made the house the same temperature as the thermostat setting. Pleeeeeeeeeeze let the hot hundreds be over and done with.
It’s storming out now so no run for me. I may take a little nap. I’ll be up late tonight for school.
Yesterday was a much, much, much better day mentally. The few weeks before and since Dad died have kicked my butt.
Have a great day!

Greetings!
I survived the first day of the semester. It actually went pretty well since I was prepared. So note to self that it is essential to give up part of my weekend to plan for the upcoming week in order to reduce my stress level. Have 1 student in each class that is MIA. If they don't surface by next week, then I'll be sending out early warning notices.
I walked for 1 hour at the arboretum before going to campus. It was already getting too warm at 7am. Today I will walk at the local forest preserve since I have an oil change at 8am. It is currently 77 degrees. Blech. I sure will be glad when my fitness center reopens next Tuesday.
Have a great day!

The Wednesday morning bird group walk has started up again, but that's at North Pond right across the street. Fall migration is underway, but so many of these warblers are so tiny it's hard to get pictures. Plus they're not in their breeding plumage, so they all look a lot more alike than they do in the spring. Basically, pale yellow. 🤣
I slept on the couch again last night, so we could both be in the A/C. It was too hot yesterday to do all the stuff I need to do in the bedroom. Baby steps. It went much better in terms of nobody was using me as a human springboard to get up to the back of the couch. She snuggled a bit, but also slept in the chair next to me. I had put one of Sweetie's beloved bathroom mat rugs on it, and she's made it her own. I have the sliders open now, and my girl next to me with her head on my leg. I'm pretty content.

Good MOrning Ladies: Zoey and Charlotte have had some very long talks with the counselor. He thinks it is following a normal course and is hopeful. She is excused from school and said they usually decide to go back in 3-5 days. C is off work to stay with her. She went to some park with all of his and her friends yesterday for a group hug session/talk and counselor thought that was good too. Zack is back in school today. He was in a state of shock as well and the wailing/keening noise terrified him (as well as us). I cant even describe it. Trying to get back to normal today. Think I may get a haircut and pedicure. Counselor told us all to talk about all of the positive things and stay away from the fact that we didn't think she should be dating him (well before last christmas--so he has been at all family functions for about a year). I just thought she could and should do better. Now, she will carry this here whole life.

Good morning!
We did not get out for a walk yesterday because of the heat. It will be too hot the rest of the week to get out with the dogs. DH did take them for a ride in the car after dark. We'll see tonight if it cools down and we can go for a short walk after dark.
I had a bunch of eggs to cook, so I made a "frittata" with ham, bacon, onions, broccolini, and artichoke hearts. I thought I had some mushrooms, but nope.
I will make a run to the FM after work today to pick up a couple of things. I really want some green beans, tomatoes, potatoes and maybe mushrooms. DH is thawing out steaks for dinner, and all of those things will go well with that.
I did sleep well last night. I was so tired after waking up a bazillion times the night before. It was nice to not wake up before the alarm.
I hope you all have a great day!

sherrydorlando2, my thoughts are with you and your family. I am really glad that there was such a quick response with immediate counselling available. I hope she keeps with it too. It's also really awful that this kid could get ahold of a gun that easily.

MAYBE NEEDS A TMI CAUTION.... Part 2 of my saga. Timmy was apparently found very quickly after he shot himself. He was air lifted to biggest hospital in Orlando. He is brain dead, but on life support. They said the quick retrieval will enable him to donate all organs. His mom was in Washington State and they agreed to keep him on the machines until she could get in this am. Everyone including Zoey got to say what they wanted to him and tell him bye. i think that will help a lot. He is going to be an organ donor. It will take 24-48 hours to arrange it all, but he will be saving 8 lives (mostly younger folks due to his size.) There will be an honor escort for his body to operating room lead by all of his friends and family. Zoey is going. C says she is doing much better.

Howdy!
We finished class early last night so I was home by 9:30, had a quick dinner, and was asleep around 10. Missing my exercise because of the weather yesterday made me kind of groggy all day, so I’m glad I was able to get to bed at a reasonable hour last night so I can take a trot thru the ‘hood this morning.
The next few days are very busy and worky. The long weekend is right around the corner, though.
Have a great day!

Greetings! Storms came through last night which have helped bring the temperatures down a bit. It is only 71 degrees this morning. We set a new record yesterday at O'Hare, yay? In spite of a new chiller being installed last week, we still are having major problems with temperature regulation in our building. It was in the upper 80s in the labs on the third floor yesterday. Yes, you read that right. I setup my anatomy lab for today in that heat so hopefully I didn't make stupid mistakes with the markings on the models. It was so hot I could hardly think. The temperature regulation of our building has been an ongoing issue for years. FFS, can't we find some company who can actually get things fixed properly? Reason #102 why I'm glad this will be my last academic year. I got in an hour+ walk at the local forest preserve yesterday before the oil change. That was pleasant. Today I will walk at the arboretum again since I can use the roads. The trails are probably sloppy thanks to all the rain overnight. We really needed the rain as we have trees whose fall colors are showing up now because they are so stressed from the lack of rainfall combined with the heat Have a great day!

Good morning! I really have felt like today should be Thursday from the moment I opened my eyes. I am looking forward to this weekend with football and cooler temps. An extra day thrown in there doesn't hurt either. I fixed green beans with baby potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and sliced tomatoes to go with the steak DH grilled. There are some leftovers that will be our lunches for the next couple of days. I imagine we will go to trivia tonight. I have already tracked my dinner as if we are. I hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: It is much cooler in the mornings here (whispered so mother nature doesn't hear me). Not sure of plans today, but I did cancel bookclub tonight. Just not feeling it. So, the twirl sandwiches I was taking are going to DD's house. I did get a bit more rest last night, but still feel "wrong". I have now finished 3 seasons of Dexter in 5-6 days.

Morning. Yesterday was a touching remembrance of my uncle. My aunts and Dad were obviously sad, but rather relieved as his Parkinson's and dementia had really already stolen the brother and husband they knew. We got home in time to bust Ripley out of doggie jail, so she got to come home and sleep in her own bed with us last night. Yesterday was also Henry and Talmen's birthday. They are 3. I have no idea HOW that happened! It has been such a crazy summer, and I still haven't been able to get there. This month the girls at work will be taking some significant amounts of time off. With any luck, I won't have to worry about doing too much OT. I was so sad to catch up on all of the recent events. I hope that each affected by the sudden violence can find peace with the senseless situations. Hugs to all.

Yay-the big storms last night broke the heat wave, at least for a bit. I got out to the bird walk group this morning at 6:30. A few of the older men are real assholes of male superiority. Sigh. Saw lots of little tiny migrating warblers and larger thrushes in the trees. Lots of small flocks of various types flying over as well. I can tell my spotting ability has improved vastly over last fall, though my ID skills need work with the warblers. Impossible to even try to get pictures, they flit around so swiftly. ETA: Big Cup match for Newcastle today. Happily, it's televised for me. I can hang out at home with Queenie, and the sliders wide open.

Happy Friday Eve!
While my lab was still warmer than ideal, it was far better than Tuesday evening. I still was sweaty after being in there for 2 back-to-back labs, both which ran long because I gave the students too much work! Oh well, they will be able to finish up the worksheets tomorrow as part of class.
I did have a nice walk early in the morning at the arboretum. I put up a few of the pictures I took on FB. It really was a lovely morning after the previous night's storms.
Today is another busy day as I have to get the grading done from yesterday's lab and finish up my lecture slides. My learning assistant has created the worksheet the students will fill out. I also have 2 advising appointments plus a bunch of emails as it is add/drop week and I still have students wanting to get into my medical terminology class.
Tomorrow one of my colleague's sons is getting married. It is an Indian (Hindu) wedding so it is at an odd time - 10am on a Friday. They do all their big life events via alignment of the planets - it is actually fascinating but sure doesn't conform with Western work schedules. I'll miss the ceremony since I'm teaching but will be able to join them for the lunch afterward. I will have to put on a dress. Shoulders and knees must be covered. I have a dress that meets that criteria. I can't remember the last time I wore a dress. This tomboy is very uncomfortable in dresses.
Have a great day!

Good morning!
We won trivia last night. DH was really a big help, so that was fun. He usually doesn't know much trivial stuff, so it was good for him to help.
Tonight is GN. One of our college friends is coming to town for the weekend and staying with WF, so she will be with us tonight. It will be good to spend time with her, as well as the usual friends.
I think the heat is on it's way out after Saturday. I am done with this! I cannot stand to be hot all day long. Maybe it will stay gone!
I better get ready for a meeting.
I hope you all have a great day!

I found out yesterday that one of the first friends I made when I moved here passed away on Tuesday. She was 53 years old, and a wonderful, fun, spirited person. She'd been battling recurring, spreading cancer for quite a few years. She needed to move nearer her parents downstate while going through her treatments. I last saw her when a small group of us had dinner together in February, 2023-the treatments took a lot out of her and she didn't get out much. I'm glad to hold the picture of her laughing and flashing a peace sign in my heart. August has not been kind this year.

TGIF! I'm glad we have a long weekend. I need time to catch up on everything. We are going over to our friends' house tomorrow for lunch. Sunday is another small gathering at a different friend's house but I need to double-check the details as I need to bake a cake to bring. Monday will be a bike ride before class prep for the week. Today is the last work day where my fitness center is closed. While I have enjoyed my early morning walks outside, I'm ready for climate-controlled activities as well as having more flexibility on starting times. I managed to pull in just after the forest preserve guy unlocked the gate yesterday to the parking lot. The arboretum doesn't open until 7am which makes things tight for a 9:30am class. Related to Cyn 's post above, our office coordinator is going through a bunch of tests and procedures. She is a 20-year breast cancer survivor but something has shown up in her lower pelvic region. She is seeing an oncologist. The procedure she is having next week will help to determine what are the next steps. It could involve her being out for many weeks. Her eldest daughter is very involved in her medical care which is good. She also has two sons. Somehow the rest of us will have to pick up the things she does for us since we are so very short-staffed. Not a good situation for anyone. Sure hope that treatments have advanced over the past 20 years and that it won't be too miserable for her. She really had a hard time with the chemo when she had the breast cancer. Everything associated with the university this year seems to have challenges. I think we need to buy some sage and burn it. Have a great day!

Howdy!
All these blah weekends lately with nothing to do, and now I have lots to do. I signed up for a Saturday afternoon class at a woodworking shop just to get out of the house. Then the community garden sent me a note about a Saturday morning event. Then I got an email from a guy I emailed months ago about private woodworking lessons. We’re having a session Sunday morning. He teaches at the Furniture School occasionally, but also teaches at his own shop. His private lessons are waaaaay less expensive than the furniture school. I like the social aspect of the school, but it is very slow going because most of the class is spent waiting to use the machines, or waiting for everyone else to finish using the machines so we can all move on to the next step. Plus the school is an hour from home and this guy’s shop is about 15 minutes from home. So yay!
Yesterday was a blur of nonstop meetings and people-ing. This morning will be more of that. My afternoon calendar is clear to go to our new office building and do some space planning. We’re hoping to start moving in January. We’re currently in three separate buildings with three separate lease periods, so the move is going to be stretched out over a period of about 18 months.
Have a great day!
ETA: I just checked the location of this guy’s shop. It’s next to a honey farm office. YayaYayayayay! I love raw honey, so maybe I can get some.

Good morning!!!
GN was so much fun last night. We hadn't eaten at that particular restaurant in a long time. It is on the high end, but really good. Two friends got the fried green tomato and deviled eggs app to share with the table. Delicious! I got the shrimp cocktail app and a side of grilled asparagus as my meal. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the cocktail sauce was spicy and fresh tasting. I would definitely eat it again.
DH wants to go to eat seafood tonight, so that is the plan tonight. Tomorrow is tailgating at our alma mater. Sunday and Monday are going to be housework, laundry and stuff before fun.
Time to get to class! Have a great day!

I came by this morning, and got distracted and forgot to post. I'm looking forward, not backward right now. I do still have one more day to get my new recipe in for my August challenge-it's planned for tomorrow. 🤞.
I'm doing Step-It-Up September for my next challenge. I did accomplish my 3/4/5 activity goals, and tracked every day. I will continue with those items. I was not as successful with using my meal planner pad and mapping things out. Not doing that definitely leaves me open to poor choices. That goes back on my list for this month. I'm hoping that cooler fall weather will help me get back to cooking a bit more creatively.

Hello long weekend!
1 week down, 15 to go. I do feel that I've gotten off to a better start than this time last year. Now to keep that momentum up.
I made it over to the Indian wedding about 15 minutes before the service ended. According to the informational card they had on the chairs, there were 5 different phases to the ceremony. It had been going on since 10am! There was a mix of Indian garb and Western garb as the bride is from Hawaii. It was fun to people watch as the Indian garb is so colorful! The fellow chanting/rapping the blessings (in Hindi) could have been an auctioneer! Even though I didn't understand any of it, it was very entertaining. Lunch was a buffet and I really enjoyed the potato curry. It was nice to catch up with a couple former colleagues as well as those still at the university. We got really lucky with the weather since we were in an open-sided tent. No rain even though they had been predicting it all day. I'm glad that I went!
After the wedding luncheon, I stopped and changed back into real clothes at a fast food place and then did my shopping errands: Costco, Fruitful Yield, and Trader Joe's plus got gas at Costco. Wowza, the stores were all busy for a Friday afternoon. Glad those errands are done.
Today I will fit in a long walk at Waterfall Glen before we go over to our friends for Chinese food. Tomorrow's event got cancelled as my friend has just been slammed by work. She works in the registrar's office of a large high school in the area and it has been non-stop insanity since the end of July. Classes started mid-August but her workload has not eased. I'm actually a bit relieved that I will have both Sunday and Monday to work on class prep as well as catch up on personal stuff. I know that I need to pace myself to get through the next 15 weeks. I really don't want to be the exhausted mess that I was last year.
Have a great day!
