Greetings!
Never underestimate my students' ability to ignore the information that I covered last Friday in review. The exam was more than 70% exactly the same questions and diagrams as they had from worksheets and the review. Yet many still failed to even get full points for that part of the exam. Of course my good students did just fine on the exam so I know it wasn't too hard. Tomorrow is the lab practical. I hope the underperformers do better. Thus far, only the really good students have bothered to come to open lab to review the models. The two students that I haven't heard from since early this month were no shows so I put in yet another early warning notice recommending that they withdraw from the course.
Long day today since I have open lab from 8:30-10:00, department meeting, advising and I have to get the lab setup for tomorrow's exam. Fun times///
Have a great day!

Howdy!
This afternoon we are cleaning out our production area in the building we’ll keep until Dec 2026 to turn it into office space. (We have to vacate our largest building this December, but construction in the new office will still be going on.) We used to build these big metal consoles for steering ships, but we haven’t build those in a couple of years. The fellow who ran that dept. is a hoarder who refused to let all the equipment and tools go. It has GOT to go now. He is still with the company, but in a different position. He needs to stay out of the office today if we expect to make any progress.
Have a great day!

Good morning! WF's birthday at BWW was lots of fun. They did have the World Series on the speakers and it was too loud, but we made it through. Today is DH's last day of golf for the season, I think. He got home before 4:30 yesterday, but I imagine he will be a bit later tonight. Nothing much is going on otherwise, and it is kind of nice. I'll take a humdrum week. I hope you guys have a great day!

good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was fairly productive. I got a lot of little jobs done. had brunch with my neighbor (3 meals) and got gas while dropping off Zoey. I cleaned the fridge out of "older" things and I cleaned a large portion of my pantry with outdated stuff. More in there, but not today. I am making my mummies soon and dressing in white with a black netting spider web poncho with a huge spider on my shoulder and going to book club. I wonder if I should wear a girly black hat to be a lady spider?? Have a great day.

Happy Humpday!
So much for getting to campus early for open lab as I had ZERO students show up including one that had specifically asked if I could be there at 8:30am. Turns out he was up late studying and doing homework and overslept. At least I had taken the rest of the ungraded exams upstairs with me so I worked on those while I waited in vain for someone to come in.
My afternoon advising appointment also was a no show. I used that time to start prepping for the next unit of material.
I had my lab all setup for the exam and all copies made by 6:15pm so that was a positive for the day.
Less than 4 weeks and I will be on my Thanksgiving break. I can't wait.
ION we set a new high temperature record yesterday at O'Hare. It got up to 82 degrees. Today will be a few degrees cooler, maybe 78 degrees. Tomorrow will be much colder and rainy in the morning. Of course it will be, because it is Halloween!
Have a great day!

Howdy!
Our newish HR person resigned. 😢 She got divorced last April and has been living with her parents. When we hired her she was living with her sister close to our office. Her drive to work now is almost 2 hours each way. When we learned of that we offered her a moving allowance, but she really wants to stay with her folks. (She’s still grieving her divorce, so it’s probably for the best.) She was offered a job close to home for the same money, so she’s taking it. I really wish she would stay, but I can’t blame her at all for the choices she’s making.
Our clean-up day went really well. I was surprised. On one of my trips to the dumpster I learned that one of our neighbors in the office complex was on Shark Tank, and the Shark woman with long hair has invested in their pet toy business. That’s pretty cool.
I’m working from home today because Mom has an appointment for lab work. Being out of the hubbub will be a nice break.
This time next week, the election will be over. Yay! (I hope.)
Have a great day!

Morning.
I don't know how I missed checking in yesterday.
It's been pretty mellow the last week. The mgr that fired me had been on vacation for a week. He got back yesterday. He seems a lot more relaxed...right up until he logged in to the computer. I still need to schedule that last week of vacation in the next couple of weeks.
Walked into a mess again this morning. But a regular night girl mess compared to a New Girl mess are two different things.
We will probably get out for a run this evening. I hope. And I hope the winds from yesterday have calmed down a bit. It was a whirlwind yesterday.
ION the new sweater progress is taking off.

Good morning!
DH and DS2 have some potentially great things happening right now. When I know more, I will put it out here, but keep your fingers crossed for them. Maybe throw crossed fingers in for DS1 to have good happen for him, too.
DH has a meeting this evening, so I will be on my own again. I need to decide if I want to go to trivia or not. Part of me does, and part of me wants to enjoy being home alone. I'll see how I feel around 6:00.
I have a meeting to go to in a minute and then paperwork to take care of.
I hope you have a great day!

Howdy!
It looks like the rain we’ve anticipated will miss us. Blargh. Maybe next week we’ll get some.
Working from home yesterday was nice. I finished a project a day ahead of my plan, so yay. Today I’ve got to start working on materials for our semi-annual Board meeting in November. Because November is tomorrow. How did this happen?
For the Board meeting materials someone asked, “Would you like me to facilitate a conversation about blah, blah, blah?” No, I think Bossman and I are capable of having that conversation without your 20-something year old self telling us how. That was weird, and I had to work hard to not have a WTH?? look on my face.
I can feel the weekend coming ‘round the bend. I don’t have any plans other than digging up the garden. Just watch — we will finally get a massive rain and I won’t get it done.
Have a great day!

Happy Halloween! I stopped by Costco last night on my way home. Saw lots of people buying those massive sized bags of candy. Guess they had eaten the candy that they purchased earlier since Costco was selling it way back in August along with costumes We are keeping our lights off as we don't feel like dealing with the trick or treaters. I don't think we have handed out candy since the pandemic turned the world upside down. Yesterday's lab practical went okay. Had one student show up in shorts. Nope, not allowed so he had to come back at the second lab session. Had another student email me that he couldn't make the exam because he had to get registered for spring classes. Um, registration doesn't start until NEXT week. Turns out he is on probation and has to get some stuff cleared up with the business office. Why he couldn't do that at a different time baffles me. Told him he can take the makeup during finals week. Um, when is finals week was his response? Seriously, how do students not know this? Then had a student show up for the second lab who wanted to know if she could not take the exam because she hasn't been feeling well. Well, you were well enough to come to lab so take the damn exam. I told her that waiting until finals week will be harder as there won't be any practice sessions before the exam and that I don't provide the opportunity for extra points. She took the exam but didn't do as well as on the first one. But she still is on track to get an A for the course. I'm still annoyed that several of the students still cannot properly identify the quadriceps, hamstrings, biceps and triceps. FFS we have looked at these muscles so many times both on the models and on diagrams in class. And some still can't figure out medial from lateral on the limbs. I still have 8 more exams to grade and then I will post the scores from both sets of tests. I will also remind students of how many points are still left to earn in the semester and how many they personally need to get to pass. Still windy here and the temperatures will be dropping all day. Rainy in the morning but it should stop by afternoon. Have a great day and I hope you get more treats than tricks today!

Morning.
It rained so much here yesterday that we had a small river forming on our street. I guess several tornados popped up around us but not in our area. I turned on my seat heater on the way home because I was so wet from the rain and chilled. We pretty much tucked in for the night even before sundown.
That means that I didn't bother getting any kind of activity. I have some plans in the works to start with a program tomorrow. I will need to be much more disciplined about when and whether I nap though. That is really what is putting the crimp in my activity. Well that and my willingness to go all the way down to the basement where I have stuff set up to actually work out.///

Good morning! Well poop! DH was hoping to get the head golf coaching job at our alma mater. Instead, the college decided to ditch the program, along with our swimming team. DH started the golf team as a club sport when we were students there. He is really angry and sad about the disillusionment of the program, more so than not being the coach, I think. Trivia was busy and fun last night. There were about 8 teams, where there are often only 3-4, so it was actually competition. I came in 3rd! I had to disappoint myself over and over again this morning by reminding myself that it isn't Friday. I have been so busy teaching and covering classes that this week has been extra long. No GN tonight. I am looking forward to seeing the few Trick-or-Treaters that we get. I think we may get a few more than usual, so 10 or so. Time to get to class! Have a great day!

TGIF and Hello November!
Hope you all got more treats than tricks yesterday.
I got all the exams graded and calculated for each student the number of points that they need to earn over the remaining exams and in class assignments. There are about 5 students who absolutely must do better on their remaining exams if they want to pass this class. I wrote short notes to everyone. I'll explain it all again in person today at the start of class. Yes, math is required if you want to figure out how well you need to do on the exams - there are 2 written exams and 1 lab exam remaining. There isn't much left to earn in points for coming to class/lab since we are at the end of week 10.
In between doing all these calculations, I had numerous students pop in my office, email me as well as 2 formal appointments. Registration starts next week and the students are coming out of the woodwork. This stupid MWF class sucks up so much of my time that I don't have much bandwidth for advising.
I'm not ready for class today but will have something pulled together since I'm up stupid early (swirling brain and body parts that were hurting).
No formal plans for the weekend other than class prep on Sunday since it is supposed to rain all day.
Have a great day!

Howdy!
I just read in the news that Elon Musk has bought a compound here so that his 11 kids and 2 of their 3 moms can all live together. Hoo-boy. I haven’t read what part of town it’s in. I rarely go to the cool parts, so I probably won’t encounter the entire brood at the grocery store. 😝
I’m so glad it’s Friday. It’s been mostly a good week, but very peopley. I’m looking forward to some garden digging, woodworking, yoga-ing and violin playing this weekend.
Have a great day!

Good Friday morning!!! I was wrong about the number of trick-or-treaters we had. It was 6. We will clean house this evening to get ready for the dogsitter. We are going to a football game near Asheville Saturday and staying downtown. (Downtown Inn and Suites, V) We called the hotel to make sure they were accepting visitors and they were happy to have our business. They let us know that parts of the city were still not open, but downtown is up and running. I look forward to helping the economy there. DH is still mad and sad about the golf program's demise. He is taking it personally, though I am sure it was not that at all. He will mope and pout until the next thing pisses him off--like Titan's football. I am so glad that this week is coming to an end. I have had a bazillion little things go on that have ended up being a lot. I won't get rest this weekend either, but no school on Tuesday will help me rest. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday!!!

Good Morning Ladies: Finally sitting down to post. Had to get done what I promised would be done yesterday first. Surprised how easily I can be led/bribed. Only had about 5 T or Ters. Took box of candy to neighbor. Now, Zack is here to do his schoolwork today and he could have had it. Making Low Country Boil for 2 grands for late lunch.

Howdy!
I got up too early so here I sit at 6:15 waiting for an 8:00 yoga class. I wish they would do a 7:00 class. With the 8:00 class it is close to 10:00 when I get home, then I have to shower. It takes too big a chunk out of the day. I know I could do things now instead of sitting on the couch reading the internet while I wait, but I’m lazy and it’s dark. 😝
It has been a nice, low-number-of-meetings week with Bossman gone, so I’m not especially looking forward to him coming back. We’re having a catered lunch brought in on Friday to celebrate Veterans Day. About a third of our employees are vets (we’re a Defense Dept. contractor and Bossman is retired from the Navy) but we’ve never done anything for Veterans Day other than taking the day off. Our HR person pulled it all together. I’m really going to miss her. She had the vets send her pics of their service days and she had them printed. We should make a permanent Wall of Fame with those.
We have one guy who we think is lying about his service — rumor is that he worked as a contractor on a ship, but he claims to have been in the Navy. I’m eager to see the pic he submitted. I found out yesterday that he brought his dog to work again after I specifically told him it isn’t allowed — our lease says so. He and I will have an unpleasant talk about that on Monday. He’s a huge jerk but a decent engineer.
Have a great Saturday!

Hello weekend!
I'll head to the arboretum to walk this morning before tackling personal financial stuff. I need to try to get a handle on our tax situation for 2024 since so many variables have changed. It is a FWP, that's for sure!
I've bitched about how much I detest my current MWF at 9:30am teaching schedule since it doesn't give me as much time as I would like in the morning to be a gym rat. Well, the powers to be have managed to make it worse for spring 2025. I will now be teaching MWF at 8:00am. Ugh. I hope my students have alarm clocks or that Santa brings them one. There was a conflict with a microbiology course that the nutrition students in my course need for graduation. They couldn't figure out how to move that course later due to conflicts with lab availability so it was easier to start my course earlier. Good thing I'm an early riser and that my fitness center opens at 5am. Reason #255 that I'm glad I am retiring.
8 of my students didn't come to class yesterday including a few who can't afford to lose points. I put in an EWN for one of them for whom I had already reported a midterm grade of F. His scores on the second round of exams were just as bad as the first round. I explained to those who actually attended just how many points were still available to be earned and that 80% of those come from exams. Some of the students need to change their study habits, or perhaps actually study, if they hope to pass. I think I got the attention of at least a couple of them. Next written exam is the Monday before Thanksgiving.
3 more full weeks of classes before Thanksgiving break. 5 more lectures to prepare. 3 more labs to prepare. We are 2/3 done as we just finished week 10. I'm so ready to be done!
ION I went down the rabbit hole of orienteering this morning after seeing information about an event in southern Wisconsin the week before Thanksgiving. I'm intrigued and might sign up if they actually get the volunteers they need to run the event.
Have a great day!

Good morning!
Packed and ready to go to Mars Hill and then to Asheville. I'm relaxing and enjoying my coffee while waiting for our friends to get here.
The house is pretty clean, but what we did yesterday showed me we need to spend time deep cleaning.
I hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was a good one. Today is a tea in a prissy place in a prissy town and I am wearing a dress! it is so seldom it is noteworthy. Picking up DGD after tea and have a container of lo country boil for her. Then I really need to get my butt in gear on the work around here. I am finally down 42 pounds. The last 2 has taken about 6 weeks.

Greetings!
How are you spending your extra hour this weekend? You did remember to change your clocks, right? Spring Forward, Fall Back! I got a pretty decent night's sleep, finally. Now I'm waiting for the fitness center to open to get my day started.
Had a a nice sunny, but frosty, walk at the arboretum yesterday. Went off the beaten path and explored some of the sections where there aren't formal paths as I needed to be away from people. Got in 3.25 miles before I dealt with all my computer stuff for the rest of the day. The road construction is still ongoing on our street at the rental property. My neighbor now has the giant construction equipment in front of his property and I have a fresh new pile of gravel blocking our mailboxes again. Sigh.
Today is class prep, be jealous.
Have a great day!

Morning.
MG changes all the clocks every time. Of course, my phone changes itself. The extra hour was lovely, and I indulged in all of it.
YF, CSO & I are starting a "soft 75" challenge. So we've gotten out to exercise twice already. I still don't like it.
My sweater is coming along beautifully. I have a lot of plain knitting (no decreases, increases, or pattern) to do before I come to the next major thing. So that will be pretty mindless. Mindless is good. I figure that I will cast the sleeves on "two at a time" to make that part of the project go a little faster. Nothing is worse than getting through one long slog of a sleeve to be left with yet another one to do. Plus doing them at the same time ensures that the tension and length are the same on both.
I have a few puttery things around the house to do: put away the flowerpots, dig up and transplant the roses, order and spread the dirt in the back yard, and clean up the mess around the back shed construction that never got going. Once it dries out enough that the dirty stuff is not muddy, I will jump on it, I'm sure.///
Enjoy a relaxed late starting day, Everyone!

Howdy!
It’s light out early! Yay! I’ll hate it when I’m driving home from work in the dark, but I sure do like early daylight on the weekends.
I got some stuff to plant at the community garden. I’ll head out shortly so I can finish before it gets hot. We had half an inch of rain yesterday (the most since July-ish) so that will make digging up my plot easier.
I spent yesterday yoga-ing, reading, napping, violining, and running errands. Maybe woodworking will happen this afternoon if the garage isn’t too hot. I have a big fan out there, but it’s not my favorite place to be on a hot afternoon. I am soooooooo over hot weather.
Have a great day!
