I have my feet up, we have had the chili - perfect on this cold day, and now I’m watching the Hawkeyes, I hope they can make a TD here after the interception. We’ll see. Had to settle for a field goal, but we’ll take it. It’s points on the board.
Jeanne - I’m so impressed that you tried on your wedding dress. I had to get rid of mine when I discovered it had mold on it from some of the punch that was spilled on it, so 24 years ago (when we moved into this house) I made the decision to get rid of it. I do own a dress made a few months later, from the same pattern, for a Christmas party - my mother made both my wedding dress (a simple thing by today’s standards) and then when I wanted a dress for the Christmas party she made it again in red. I *might* have fit in it 25 years ago, but I sure couldn’t come close now. And actually it is so slim I doubt even my tiny / slim granddaughter could fit in it. I still do have that dress (I think).
I started a baby blanket today for our DGNeice that will have a baby boy after the new year. As I was working on it I remembered that I have a quilt someplace that her DGM made for us when DSon was born, sure enough I found it, and will write a note and send it to her when I send the other blanket, I’m sure her mother and she will be happy to have it back, and I’m thrilled that I remembered it so I can happily pass it along.
Caryn - enjoy the party. I told DH we are getting out of the house tomorrow. I have the shoes that DGD decided she didn’t want (now both pair) and will get them sent off, and I want to pick up a few groceries.
I found a recipe for a rigatoni that you put in a 9x13 pan, it doesn’t take ricotta, that’s what I’m going to make instead. Trying to decide if I’ll make bread, or just pick up some italian bread to make garlic bread to go with it. Really leaning toward keeping it simple. DSisIL will bring the salad, and I’m going to make apple crisp to use up the apples I have on hand.
Gina - I totally agree with you that the ricotta makes it creamy and wonderful, probably one reason I decided on the rigatoni instead. I just saw an article on the property taxes, guess I don’t need to worry, our taxes are no where near the cut off for next year. I could still pay them as our income will be much less next year. It’ll all work out I guess.
Luv - I’m glad that most things are put away where they belong, we’ll do the tree and other lights, and decorations on Monday or Tuesday next week, although now that I say that, maybe we will leave them up until the 3rd as we will have the family here on the 2nd. Yeah, that’s my new plan.

RV - soo sorry about your post!
Allison - triple yuck on the Cost Accounting book. (a) it's heavy (b) it's tedious and (c) it's supposed to your vacation.
Fielding client questions all morning. So only got 5 more clients onboarded. Still have about 20 to go...and then my business clients.
But first now that the cleaning lady is done, I need to go get some fruits and veggies. DH will BBQ steaks for dinner, and I have some golden potatoes to roast.
Peg - so great you found the baby quilt, I'm sure that they will appreciate getting it back. Rigatoni sounds like a better idea, I'm sure all will love it. The best part about baked pasta dishes is that the leftovers taste even better.
Stay warm everyone.

evening all. Villanova is playing but we do not get the CBS Sports channel - booo. I am following along on game tracker. I did some sewing for DH and am deciding if I should work on the next chapter to get started. DH is watching something from PBS that doesn't interest me.
RV - I hate when I lose a post.
Gina - our state does not allow us to prepay real estate taxes. Not sure about the Florida property. I am hoping the doubled standard deduction will cover the taxes and then some.
Geez, I am yawning and it is only 8:15.

Our state passed something that allows us to prepay both our school and county/town taxes. The county clerk must be swamped this week!
So, we go to the movies. I bought the tickets online. There were only a few good seats left. We get there, it’s 3D we get the glasses and start seeing the coming attractions....,and the fire alarm goes off! We evacuate, it’s 20 degrees out - not counting wind chill! We stand around waiting for the fire dept to show up. The manager comes out and says she can’t say when they can restart the project tots and we should go to “other theaters” Huh? We gave up. Now I’m trying to get a refund from the online. The nearest theater is 20 minutes away, probably more and they are all reserved seating. So where are we going to sit? First row?
We went to a terrific seafood restaurant for dinner.
After 25 years of marriage, we can laugh.

What NY did was to issue the tax bills early. They were a step ahead of the IRS who said today, no bill in 2017, no deduction.
The crux of the matter is if the tax wasn't 'assessed' in 2017 you can't prepay it. CA assesses property tax on a fiscal year, 1/2 is due in Nov and 1/2 in Feb. So since everyone has the Feb bill in hand, it is easy to pay it now. Most counties have online payment ability so it's fairly simple. All the major banks are accommodating those with escrow or imprest accounts, allowing the prepayment, and in some cases financing it. The 'game theory' around all of this is rather fun to watch.
Got my shopping done, found Opal apples on sale. They are crisp and sweet...plus for some reason they don't turn brown. Also got lots of broccoli as it is my kids favorite. Both will be home for dinner on Friday. CAN'T wait!!! I may just have to find that mayo cake recipe.

I am heading to bed to watch the news. I have my mani/pedi at 10. I am excited to get the drive underway but ask me again after hours in the car and I may have another opinion.
Gina - very happy for you to have DD & DS home on Friday. I am sure you are anxious to hear about DD's trip.
Jimmy - you must have been disappointed to miss the movie. GL in getting your money back.

One more "problem" - if you pay for your property taxes through your mortgage payments - good luck!
Just watched an awful movie on Netflix called Bright. I have no idea why DH played it, but avoid it if you can. Time for bed...

Just stopping' in to read and catch up. Need to get to bed but had a crazy day prepping for MN family to arrive and tending DGD but they arrived and DGD was so excited. The 16 y/o DGS played with her but the younger one doesn't "get" small children so tried to avoid her. They left around 5:20 to have dinner at DSD#2's home then were going to visit their DF's. Nearly 10:30 and they aren't home yet. We're heading up to bed. Tomorrow is another day! Had a very nice time with DS and family tonight. His "DIL's" joined us, good to see them and share time with them again. We invited them to visit us in FL, we'll see if they decide to take us up on the offer!
Off to bed...

Good morning All you BAMS
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for my son.......texted me this morning and I don't think he had a very good night.....now they are discussing heart problems.....there was a dispute between Infectious Disease MD and the other MD....regarding cellulitis....ID Dr said it wasn't cellulitis and all other Drs he has seen here and back home think it is. Will talk to DDiL later to see what she knows.
Trying to keep up with posts......skipping through I saw where Jeanne? was trying on wedding dress and reminded me that I used to do that every year on our anniversary......got tighter however still would zip......unfortunately it was destroyed in 1992 during Hurricane Andrew. Sad! Of course I know it would not zip now! lol
Caryn, sorry about cost of renovations.....
Allison.....have a safe trip and certain you will enjoy the weather. It has been quite foggy here in early mornings but beautiful for the rest of the day.
Betty.....you are getting ready to travel also and hope you don't run into bad weather. Stay safe.
RV.....can't imagine getting into a pool here..until middle of summer. We had a pool in Miami, but I didn't stick my toe in until water was 90 degrees.
WW WI this morning......certain to have gained a bit this week.......however I am below goal and back on track. Will make White bean chicken chili later. Have given away and dumped most of sweets....will get rid of the rest today. Leftover ham will go in freezer.
Enough chatter for now.....will update NSDS's condition when I get a clearer report from DDIL.

Morning all, too dark to tell wha the day will bring here, it’s warmed up some still only 1* this morning, but at least it’s above zero! I’m planning a trip to town today. I need to get out of the house, did get out to walk to the mailbox yesterday. I plan to take back the shoes I ordered for DGD, she brought the second pair back yesterday and I gave her $$ to get what she wants. Thank goodness Zappo’s makes returns so easy. Other than going to town, not much on my to-do list today.
Patsy Oh my goodness, on the confusion for you son, hope they figure it out and can get him the right help.
Betty you are getting in all the last minute visits with everyone. Does your DSon live close?
Caryn after the ball game (Hawkeyes won!!) I tried to watch the Dolly Parton movie, but just couldn’t get interested in it. Went to bed early, which is why I’m up early too!
Allison yeah for getting to FL, have a great time, I’m thinking palm trees on your fingers today? Let’s see what you / they come up with. I noticed I’ve been pretty hard on my french polish this time. It should last a little longer.
Gina Iowa does the fiscal year thing too, and I could pay the taxes due in March, but have decided it won’t make that much difference for us, although it would be good to get it paid this year as our income will be less next year. but as I mentioned it’s not all that much in the grand scheme of things. So glad you will have both kids home with you on Friday, I know how excited you will be to hear about DDer’s trip.
Jeanne what a mess with the movies. Hope getting a refund wasn’t too difficult. Happy 25th anniversary - I’m still in awe that you were able to get into your dress.
RV hope you post again today to give us the news on the blind man.
Khalua do you have an empty nest now?
Off to finish this first (but not last) cup of coffee. Have a great day all.

The blind man did arrive yesterday, about 1 hour late. Guess he lives on island time. I have ordered 8 blinds of various sizes. 2 inch slats in a smooth oyster color. We are keeping the window trim. It would look to stark without it. He said 2 1/2 weeks to 3 weeks, but the factory was closed this week. Me, the way things go I'm thinking Valentines day.
Just resting before all the activities of the weekend. Today is margaritas again o it must be Thursday. Friday a day of shopping, and hearing our friends band on Friday night. Saturday - who knows, Sunday - New Years Eve Party and Monday DH and I put on a Black Eyed Pea and Ham party for our friends at the campground.
Hope everyone is keeping warm somehow. I guesss someone left the door open an we to have cool weather for a while.
Patsy - Hope they can determine what DS has soon. Those heart issues can be serious.
Jeanne - Sorry about the movie. Didn't know they had reserved seats now.
Peg - now you and DH can travel to FL in the winter.
Khalua - Are you recovered?

good morning Bammies! I walked 2.5 miles on the TM. I need to shower and go to my mani. The stuff for the car (except for perishables) is all out in the breezeway waiting to be packed. I saw a post from DSis - she is looking for someplace exotic to go for her birthday in March (like Bali) - maybe she won't be in Florida for my spring break? Wishful thinking... We will see her for dinner on Tuesday night - DS & DH want to go to a place near her so we can leave once dinner is over. If she comes out our way we won't be able to get rid of her.
RV - mid February is probably a safe bet for the blind delivery.
Patsy - ending healing thoughts to DS for a fast, accurate diagnosis and recovery.
Peg - I was thinking about palm trees or just some flowers. I don't want an involved design - I want to be outta there to meet up with DH as soon as the settlement is over.
Betty - have fun with family today.
hi to Jimmy, Gina, Caryn, Luv and Khalua.
Allison
Not sure how to find the thread on my phone - look for me on the Bam FB page to see how far we get tonight.

Peg...No empty nest yet!! They decided to stay an extra night here, then go to a hotel in Miami. They found our that their best friends (a couple of couples) are coming to Miami to celebrate New Year's Eve and so they decided to stay and celebrate with them. Is that repetitive? LOL! So, I had them yesterday. We went to a late lunch/early dinner at the Delray Market Place, that is an outside mall. Very nice place. WE walked around there after eating. Then we came home and Leonora stayed home with me while they went to the Town Center Mall. DDIL bought a pair of heels for her Mom and when she opened the box to pack them, there was only one shoe in the box! So, she had to go back to get the other shoe. That was the excitement yesterday.
They are almost all packed, don't know what time they are leaving. But, I got an extra day out of it and good that their finishing of the the food that I shouldn't eat!
Allison..I don't know if you'll even see this, but I pay my property taxes with my mortgage and my company has already paid them, so it must be okay to pay them early in Florida. Have a safe trip!!
Jeanne..what a bummer!! Glad you and DH could laugh it off!! Hope the seafood was yummy!! Wow at being able to fit into your wedding dress!!!
Patsy..sending prayers that the Drs reach an diagnosis and get treatment underway ASAP! It's 70 here now, delightful, but with a warning of severe thunderstorms in the next 3 hours (but ya never know). It rained last night, too.
Betty...Hat's off to you! I'd be a nervous wreak trying to get ready for a long time away and with relatives visiting and watching DGD to boot. I don't know how you do it!! Nice that you got to visit with DS.
Gina..thanks for all the info you're sharing. Much appreciated. Just read we can't write off the prior year's tax preparation..col!! Those apples sounds yummy! Yea that DD and DS will both be home Friday!!
RV..whew! Finally you got your blinds ordered and we finally know what the blind man was going to do!! The mystery of the month solved!! LOL!! I hope you can get them before Feb, but a good idea to think that way so you don’t get aggravated.
Off to enjoy the last hours with the family for a while.
Have a happy Thursday!!

I'm still laughing that Khalua's DDIL bought only one shoe. What a pain.
Well we have a new great-nephew in the family. No name yet, but he was born at about 11:30 last night. I'm smiling. I just got back from the gym. Good Miracle class, plus I did the weight circuit. My cleaning crew is here so I can't change into street clothes, but soon. DD1 is heading to the city again (yet another date with yet another guy). She also told me she's spending the entire weekend in the city (through New Year's Day). I'm glad she's with kids her own age and not us old fogeys.
17* right now. Brrrr.
Patsy - I am praying for your son's recovery, whatever it is that is wrong.
Jeanne - sorry you missed the movie. I hope you try again. What a mess up and in this cold!!
RV - at least I now know what the "blind" man does hahaha.
So we're postponing the kitchen renovation - too much tax and income uncertainty right now. Hope to do it in the fall. Meanwhile, We're going to look at hiring our handyman Angelo to do some of the work. He's much less expensive. He can do a new fireplace mantle and replace the broken doors (French door) to the back yard. The upstairs family bathroom is also under consideration. The remodeler will renovate the kitchen and do recessed lighting throughout the first floor, as well as refinish the floors...but we'll cut back the scope and not move any structural walls. I think it will be fine in the end. I was up until 4 am thinking this through and then DH and I talked this morning.
I need to eat something. CU all later.

Ah yes, the prior year tax prep...most people can't deduct that anyways because it is under the 2% of AGI limit. Still, I left that off my email because I don't want to recognize the income in 2017, it would raise MY taxes. Hey, I have to consider my situation too, right?
The NY Times article has many of my clients confused. It's pretty simple. If you have a property tax bill in hand, then you can pay it. What Gov. Cuomo did was stick it back to the Feds by assessing taxes a few days early. This is GAME THEORY in action. Taxes don't operate in the vacuum that the "think tanks" think they do. Now what follows is simply factual, I'm only reporting what happened. The "BLUE" states generally have higher income and property taxes. The "RED" states control Congress. The "RED" states want to stick it to the "BLUE" states...so they limited a deduction that pretty much only benefits the "BLUE" states. The "BLUE" states fought back. It was pretty easy for CA as taxes were already assessed. some of my clients prepay the 2nd installment every other year. So year A they pay 3 property tax bills, year B they pay 1. In year A, they would also make all their charitable contributions. Thus they could itemized every other year, the higher standard deduction will probably be an end to this strategy.
2 Truths to take away ... (1) Taxes aren't and will never be FAIR. (2) There is no such thing as tax simplification.
I must say it has been really nice to get positive feedback from my clients as to the care I provide.
Khalua - yeah on the extra day!
RV - glad you got your blinds ordered. Is the new place feeling like home yet? Happy Margaritas!
Allison - safe travels.
Jeanne - I do like the phone app...but no pages, all one long scroll.
Patsy - prayers for your son, hope they figure it out.
back to my dask.

Back from our trip to town, shoes are on their way back to Zappos, and I got lunch out. We ate at Applebee’s which is just ‘okay’ in my book, but who am I to complain about eating out? We do have a couple of coffee / lunch places that are local that I prefer, but DH likes his Bourbon Street Steak at Applebee’s - pretty much the only thing he ever orders.
Gina - you are a gem to be on contact with your clients, we have heard nothing from our CPA, and part of me wishes I had taken the taxes in today and gotten that done ahead of time. Probably a mistake on my part.
Caryn - I’m so sorry you feel the need to postpone the kitchen renovation. Understandable with the current situation on the taxes, and of course you losing your client. Schools and non-profits seem to be taking a hit here in Iowa, I don’t know about other places. We are at 12* right now. Our *high* for the day!
Khalua - DSon could switch his plane tickets? I didn’t realize they had so many friends already here. How far is Miami? Glad you were able to go out with them, how’s the knee? I”m sure you are exhausted, and the house is very quiet.
It has snowed off and on all day today, I kept waiting for it to quit before going to town, when we left it was barely doing anything, but as we ate, big flakes were falling, then it let up again. Now there is just a little in the air. Someone told us we are to get 1 - 3 inches more tonight / tomorrow. But, hey, we aren’t in Erie, PA. I hope Allison got away in good time, and wonder how far they will get today. Hope they are having safe travels.
