Good morning!
It is raining--really raining! I hope it rains the game out today, because I am dreading it so badly. It is also supposed to rain tomorrow, so maybe the season is already done. I am ok with that. I hate feeling anxious about things that I love to do. I hate that a couple of people/strangers make me feel that way.
This is my last week before going to work on August 7th. I may go in a little on the 6th, to see what I need to do. I just got an email from the new department chair and he has changed my roster up completely. I am furious over this! I have built strong relationships with my students over their time in high school, especially my seniors. I know some parents that will be upset, also.
I just finished my Medicare application! How did I get so old?
I hope you all have a great day!

Greetings!
I was pretty much useless at work yesterday as I was way too obsessed with checking out maps and making sure I know exactly where my cousin wants us to hike. I did get one recommendation letter updated and uploaded so it wasn't a totally wasted day. My friend/co-worker wasn't much more focused than me as she leaves one week after I do for two full weeks way up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, truly past the end of the earth!
Today is the last pass of weeding, cleaning my bike and getting to the bank, library, hardware store and Jewel.
Have a great day!

Howdy!
Yesterday my brother posted on FB that Dad passed around 8 Sunday night. He had been on morphine and nothing else for several days, so it was time.
Apparently my brother is pissed at me for saying I wouldn’t be the one to tell Dad it was ok for him to go. Or for some other reason. He made a general post on FB instead of letting me know. I commented on the post that I was sorry it had been so hard for him, and he deleted my post. He also posted some drivel about the Olympic ceremony making fun of Christians, so whatever, dude.
I’m glad this chapter of life is done. I need to stop thinking and get back to having a happy life.
Furniture school is tonight. We’ll turn big boards into little boards to make our Japanese tool boxes. The one we’re making is very utilitarian, but I saw some online that are gorgeous. I might get started on a gorgeous one at home.
Have a good day!

Good Morning Ladies: Didn't get much done yesterday. Returned 2 tops and bought 4. Tried some stuff on today for a Veterans Tea (red, white and blue theme). I think there are 7 of us going. I look like a clown in most of my stuff. I really need to put a huge bin in there to drop things into when they get to the ridiculous point. I'm very proud of that. However, it is s l o w...

I got the terrible news last night that one of my students died in a bike accident yesterday. He had borrowed an electric bike from a friend, ran a stop sign and was hit by a truck. I am in shock and crushed. To say that this student was special is an understatement. He was unable to read, but so smart. He could listen and discuss subjects with ease--as long as he didn't have to read or write about it. He was kind, though he would adamantly tell you he wasn't. I will miss talking to him about all the things he was going to do with his father and the logging business they own.
When we got home from baseball last night, there was a distinct smell of skunk in our house. I don't think the skunk is in our house, but near it. I hope our dogs do not find it!
Tonight is the last night of baseball. I am glad to be done. Tomorrow we are going to Chapel Hill for the night. Our favorite place there is closing (temporarily, I hope) due to the landlord leasing to a new restaurant. We want to go see the people there before they have to move. Plus, it will be good to get out of town for a night.
I hope you all have a good day!

Hi, Of course now that the adoption is official, somebody decided to barf twice this morning so we're waiting until tomorrow to go get her second distemper shot. Now I'm just hoping that she will feel well enough to eat later on, and things settle. It is nasty hot today, Queenie hasn't quite figured out that the cooling mat will be nice. I'm running the A/C for us. I've left her out of the bathroom in the overnight since we had our sleep-out, though I've slept in my room the past 2 nights. This morning there were toys left by the couch again, too bad I'm not as good a food provider as my Queenie is! What do you guys give your cats? I fed Sweetie scrip kibble for so long, I need to figure out what'll be the best transition dry food to try for The Queen.
I'm not loving the keen-wah in my salad, I didn't put enough in and it's getting lost. I might try a grain blend next time. So far, the farro's my fave and is also a complete protein when paired with chick peas.

Hi, pepper want to hear something weird? All the posting about your father passing away, and I hadn't even remembered it was the same day that mine had passed away on. I needed to actually google his obit to see what year it was - 2021. Things fade out of memory if we let them. ❤️ And your brother is not worth any space in your head. He's all over the map. Anyhoo, onwards to Attentive August. I attained my Jump Into July goals: tracking streak still going, 3/4/5 weekly challenges met, made 2 new recipes vs the 1 I committed to. I also used my meal planner, tho not to it's fullest postential. Apparently I didn't commit to actually losing any weight, and I don't think I did🤣🤣🤣. The scale will tell tomorrow-I'm hoping for no gain at least. I'm keeping those same goals, and adding using meal planner. Here are today's morning offerings. She is just the sweetest little thing!😻🥰 Off to the ponds, while it's still cool out, followed by a jaunt to Aldi. Hopefully the cat scratcher tree they have will fit into Mr Wheelie. Have a lovely day, ladies!

Happy Humpday and happy last day of July!
Wowza, time is certainly accelerating! It was hot, humid and miserable here yesterday. I did get out into the yard for 2 hours and filled another yard waste bag. I could have done more, but I didn't want to start another bag and I was tired of being hot and sweaty. So good enough.
Then I got my bike all cleaned up. Looking much better now and the drive chain is all clean and running smoothly. It is ready to put into my car on Friday afternoon.
DH got us BBQ for lunch as it was my belated birthday treat. It was good and I have enough leftover brisket for 2 more meals. And enough BBQ sauce for about 10 meals! They gave us both a generous container of sauce with our meat and then another 7 to-go packets of sauce!
Next up was a trip to the laundromat to get my jackets cleaned and re-treated. I also did my bedding since the jackets required two rounds in the washer - one to clean, one for the waterproofing stuff. There is no place like a hot laundry to be on a miserably hot afternoon //// I was so hot that a pint of oatmilk frozen dessert was my dinner.
I also got the garbage and recycling out which was a bigger project than a normal week as I was disposing of old latex paint that the former tenant had left behind. You are supposed to get the paint all dried out or mix in sand before putting it in the trash. I started that project last week and was surprised that the paint wasn't completely hardened with how hot it has been. At least it was firm enough that it wouldn't leak, so good enough.
I also fit in a trip to the hardware store to get a small bottle of Goo Gone to replace the one I carry on my bike as it had fallen out of my bags on my last day of my tour bag in June. It was really hard to track down a 2 oz bottle as everyone wants to sell it to you by the gallon, well at least the 8 oz size. I got the last bottle at the hardware store and it was hidden in the automotive section, not by the regular bottles.
I was wiped out after all these adventures. But of course I woke up at 2:30am with leg cramps. So I got started on packing some of my clothes for the trip and then listened to a meditation and fell back asleep.
More tackling of paperwork and financial stuff today. I am meeting a friend for a trip to the arboretum this morning. We will tour the new Great Garden and then head into the coolness of the visitor center to continue catching up!
Have a great day!

Howdy!
I’m feeling so much better this morning. Class was fun last night, and just what I needed — talking, laughing, and doing interesting new things all at the same time. I hope my foul mood is gone now.
(((((You ladies))))) Thanks for being here. Dad’s death affected me much more than I thought it would. All the re-living in my head has not been good.
Have a great day!

Morning YF & I went to An American Tail, which was the free movie yesterday. YMV went with us. Dinner was popcorn (no buttah!) and Reese's Pieces. Oink. Afterwards YMV walked home and YF & I went to the trail for a short run. It was still high 90's. Despite the heat, the shade made it bearable, and we got in about 1.5 miles. We had a long teary talk, and she is in a quandary about her desire for kids and her involvement in her nieces and nephews' lives versus her DH's change of heart about ever having kids. She loves kids so much and would be a great mom. This has been an ongoing thing for them and she told him to either join her in a therapist's office or a lawyer's office. I am so torn up for her. I just listen as I am not super great at keeping opinions to myself. It's going to turn into an interesting summer. RE Jump In July I did follow the app daily, although I had thought to restart with WW at the beginning of the month and that went by the wayside. I also blew off about everything else (exercise, trying) but Tomarrah is anotha day.

Morning Ladies: Yesterday turned out to be so interesting. I hadn't seen a brochure on our tea. They told me to wear red, white and blue and something about Veterans. The tea had amazing and very unusual menu items and one of the few that was reasonable price. The speaker was awesome. It was about veterans...but women...and they were all spies! From Revolutionary War to WWII, including a good portion about Julia Childs being a spy. I never heard that. We had a great day. Today is couch looking this am as Badcocks is going out of business. Two bookclubs (one got moved) and make cherry cheesecake minis for the one with food. One of the books was Hail Mary about space and was VERY interesting and the other was Joan Is Okay and I liked it too.

Good morning!
I am sitting around watching the Olympics and generally doing well. I have tracked every day in July. I forgot to WI this morning before coffee. I'll do it anyway when I get back upstairs to the scales.
I still don't know when my student's service will be. I cannot imagine having to figure out a funeral for my 16 year old child. My heart breaks for his parents, his siblings, his friends, and the person who was driving the truck that hit him.
I am still fuming over the changes to my roster. One of my co-workers called me yesterday, and he feels the same way. Some of the parents are going to have a fit. We have three siblings who are all on different rosters. That is three different people that the mother has to communicate with, instead of one. I know that another co-worker put the bug in the new guy's ear about doing the rosters this way. He is lazy and doesn't want to do the work it takes to form a relationship with his students and parents. That guy called my phone this morning, but I didn't answer. I cannot talk to him right now. I can afford to be petty, so I will be.
I am looking forward to going to Chapel Hill today, even though it's going to be miserably hot. We have planned some fun along the way and will just do what we want today and tomorrow.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Howdy!
Yesterday Bossman and I looked at a couple of potential office locations for when our current lease is up. It was nice to get out of the office.
Finding a new space sooner than we anticipated changes the big project I was going to get our new person working on when she starts Monday — moving forward on our plans to reconfigure our current office. We will need to do some of that anyway even if we move at the end of this year, so I need to spend some time thinking through that. I also need to make a list of projects for her so we can get some other things moving.
I have zero plans for the weekend. I’d like to see a movie, so maybe I’ll see Twister.
Have a great day!

Greetings!
I had a nice stroll and chat with my former colleague yesterday. We admired the beautiful plantings in the Grand Garden that was finished up last year after a major construction project. She had a rough transition after she was forced out of the university at the end of 2021 but is now doing very well in her new position at the University of Chicago. The only downside is the very long commute from the western suburbs.
Then I got all my financial stuff dealt with so everything that is coming due when I'm out of town or right when I get back is all taken care of. Comcast had a big outage in our area but fortunately I could pair my laptop with my phone (AT&T) to get stuff done.
I'm about 80% packed for my trip. I have 4 orders coming from Amazon either today or tomorrow. My todo list is finally rapidly shrinking!
Have a great day!
Today I'm on campus and have committee letters for 4 students to deal with.

My oldest niece (daughter of MA twin sister) had her baby this morning! A little girl named Ruby, I have no stats yet. It was a long haul through several unfruitful attempts w IUI/IVF, but they finally made it! I'm so very thrilled for them, and my sister is over the moon. ❤️ There were no trophies left for me this morning, I think somebody was mad I made her get her 2nd distemper vax and nails clipped back at the shelter yesterday. It was so hot, we took the bus both ways. I did walk the Aldi run w Mr Wheelie first thing. Theg had a scratching post playground for $20. Also the lickable puree treats for substantially less than at the pet stores, and even lower priced than Chewy, so I glommed the whole trayful. Having a snuggle, then off to the ponds and rent drop. Happy August!

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was busy plus I bought a new sofa and loveseat (to be delivered Monday). Feel like I have looked at several hundred/walked miles in furniture stores. Gave the rest of the cheesecakes to neighbor. Today is labs at 11...so of course I am hungry today....never eat breakfast any other time-LOL. Happy Friday Eve.

Happy August!
We had a fun, short trip to Chapel Hill. We found some places that were cool enough to sit with the dogs. Dinner last night was at a new to us place. They are known for Eastern Carolina BBQ, but DH and I found it bland. The people were really nice and all, but I want that spicy, vinegary punch in my sauce. Because that meal didn't scratch the BBQ itch, we went to a different place on our way home and got a better meal.
Tonight is GN. I haven't been but once or twice all summer, so it will be fun to be with my friends.
My student's memorial is not in our town. If I had known, I would have made our trip home go by the funeral home. As it is, I cannot get to it. This really makes me sad, but is unavoidable.
In other news, today was the first workday for the school year, and I was not there!!!! I am not missing that at all.
I hope your day is a good one!

Howdy! I need everyone to leave the office for a day so I can have some focus time. Calgon, take them away! It’s supposed to hit at least 100° every day for the foreseeable future. I should use some too-hot-to-do-anything-fun time for some continuing ed. But yuck, that sounds even less fun than sweating outside. Since sherrydorlando2 said Twister is sad, going to a movie is off the table. Have a great day!

TGIF!!!
Less than 24 hours and I'll be heading west!!!!!!!! I got all the recommendation letters tweaked and uploaded. Ended up doing stuff for 5 students plus one Zoom advising session. My out off office voicemail and email are set. I was clear that I'm not checking either until Monday 8/19.
One suitcase is completely packed. Sheesh, I have to bring a lot of stuff in order to hike, bike AND kayak! All my Amazon stuff arrived as well.
After I go to the fitness center, I will take care of a few things at the rental property, then get my semi-annual jewelry check done and swing by Trader Joe's. Then I'll come home and get as much of the remaining stuff packed and into my car.
Have a great day!

Good morning, I had forgotten about my unerring ability to toss toys so they slide under furniture.🤣🙄 Queenie has a different play style than Sweetie had, so I'll need to make adjustments. I have figured out I can carry one of the throw pillows around to kneel on while I look for toys under furniture w the flashlight. I also have help doing that, as Q puts her little face right up next to mine while I peer underneath.
You guys, she makes me so happy. I'm sleeping better, my mind feels calmer. I'm getting used to her not being talky like Sweetie was, but it does seem as though she's started making some comments because I talk to her a lot. It's so much less lonely. 😻
