Good morning! I am squeezing out as much of this lazy summer. I am reading in bed, napping, and wearing pjs all morning long. I have plans for the rest of the days that I am off, but not today. GN was ok. It was just me and one other person. Everyone else had other things to do. I was kind of sad about that, but had fun with my friend. I hope you all have a great day!

Hello weekend and start of my great adventure!
My cousin is already at the airport as her flight is at 6:10am. She is flying from the Annapolis area to Colorado today.
I had a busy but good day yesterday. I ended up having to return the compass (#2) that Amazon delivered on Thursday as it couldn't find North! I think the unit got damaged when they dropped (threw?) the envelope onto our porch. So that went back and I got a different compass from REI. Fortunately REI is just a couple miles down the road from where I had to go to get my jewelry checked so not a big deal. This new compass can find north!!
It is good that I always get my wedding rings checked when I have the other pieces checked under warranty. Turns out that the shanks are getting thin in spots and some of the prongs holding the stones are chipped. So my rings will get repaired while I'm off on my trip. I never wear my jewelry when I do any of my outdoor activities. These rings were my mother-in-law's. I never knew her as she died of breast cancer right after DH finished college. She was a petite woman so we originally had the rings stretched to fit my big fingers but that started to fail and we had new shanks put on them. I guess after close to 33 years, metal starts to wear away.
I finished up my errands with a stop at Trader Joe's and then I started packing the car. I got about 75% of the stuff loaded yesterday. The rest had to wait for this morning since it includes stuff I use in the mornings as well as my 2 coolers.
Today I'm driving to Nebraska City.
Have a great day!

Howdy! I’m so glad it’s the weekend. I need to make garden plans. newmoose asked what we plant in the fall. It’s not really that different than other places plant in the spring. August is normally our hottest month, so nothing is being planted outside now. People are starting seedlings indoors for tomatoes and squash. Toward the end of August I’ll plant lots of radishes and beets because those things grew very well in the spring and they were my favorites and I wished I had a whole garden full of them. I’ll probably also plant blackeyed peas because my current pea plants have roasted in the sun. I might do some continuing ed this weekend since it’s too hot to do much else. I’ll putter with some woodworking. There’s some fun woodworking news I’ll post later. My iPad has about 3% energy left right now. Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: Got my results back on the labs by early am yesterday. A1C was 5.7--best in years--and that is after 3.5 months. Kidneys were no change and the other stuff was good. I just generally look at those 2 things. Massive storms again yesterday.

Hi, Heading out shortly to drop a tootsie sample at the vet for our free post rescue assessment appointment on Tuesday. Sadly, it was a dingleberry drop on the rug this morning. Thankfully I saw it happen, so grabbed it up quickly. I'm having a poop safari flashback 🙄😬😢. I'll head over to the Jarvis Sanctuary afterwards, I haven't been there in a bit. I wonder if my woodpecker friend will find me for some raw cashew treats. Yesterday eating was not fabulous, but I tracked it all. It was sofa king hot, I did get some walking activity in but not as much as I really wanted to. Happy Weekend, ladeeeez! I can't wait to see gadgetgirlil 's travelogue posts! sherrydorlando great job on the A1C!

Happy Saturday!
We went to a new restaurant last night. We will definitely go back. They have some growing pains to take care of, but overall things are really good there.
Tonight we are going to watch our favorite band (the one DS1 plays with when he is home) play at the brewery. After that we will find a place to eat here in town. There's a place that does Asian style food and that's what I am choosing, given the chance.
I want to go by a local festival today, too. I don't need anything, but it's fun to see the arts and crafts. Maybe we will go on our way to the brewery tonight.
Tomorrow I head up to Roanoke for a baby shower and to stay the night with a good friend. We don't get to spend enough time together, so it will be nice to have that tomorrow evening.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Greetings from Nebraska City! Since I got started so early yesterday, I was too early to check in when I arrived so I decided to drive the route that I'm riding today. Good thing I did as I realized that after mile 35, there are no services until I get to the end. It is a 72 mile loop, all on paved roads. It was in the mid 90s with full sun. I was sweaty just unloading my stuff from my car. Thus, I'm starting well before dawn this morning to minimize how long I will be in the hot sun. It only got down to 70 degrees overnight. Blech. My drive was uneventful and what little road construction there was didn't cause any delays. I ended up with 566 miles for the day since I added on the loop for the bike route which conveniently starts/end at the gas station right next to my hotel. I did see wind turbine blades being hauled. Those things are LONG!!! They don't look so big from the ground but when you see one being transported, you realize just how massive they are! My cousin had an uneventful trip to Colorado yesterday as well. She did note how hazy the skies were in Denver and that she could smell the wildfire smoke. There are 4 active wildfires in the Front Range. At least 3 have human causes I'm watching the air quality reports as I will be riding on Tuesday north of Denver. I'm hoping they will get some rain from the afternoon storms that are common in the mountains this time of year to help reduce the fires. Have a great day!

Morning
The weekend was mostly mellow. We finished up the contract on the deck and I got him paid. We got the next contract for the remainder of the work and materials signed and I need to get him a down payment check for that. But he said that it would be a little bit before he could start on the work. He's got a guy who will show up Monday(?) to prepare to pour the pad at the base of the deck. The last parts of the deck project are on hold until the pad is poured, but that is why I wanted the next contract in place as he can't thoroughly finish up until the start of the next thing. I put my deck furniture up on the deck Friday and sat out there Saturday morning while I waited for Ripley to take care of business. My next thing is getting a better class of deck furniture as the second-hand plastic rattan is decaying at a rapid pace. It serves a purpose for now, though. And it's in decent-ish enough condition that I can list it on the buy/sell local FB site when I'm ready. It doesn't win any beauty contests but is still serviceable.
Nails and an early run were Friday morning with just YF. The GN is Manhattan was lovely. YF had been to KC Friday afternoon to pick up her DH and brought treats from the vegan/gf bakery for CSO & me. I guess they are at a tenuous truce. When we got to Manhattan, the original salon we had thought to go to was already closed and others were closed or booked. We ended up at Great Clips. The kid who did my cut was so timid about cutting so much off. My hair had been way past my shoulders and is now a pixie length bob. Short, but not as short as it has ever been. So us girls went to the cocktail lounge for drinks and dinner. They often revamp the menu. But they had always had a hummus plate that they could make vegan to accommodate CSO's limited diet. They no longer had the hummus plate and we were all sad. But what we did end up with was lovely and they had new summer drinks on the menu. And their drink menu also has non-alcoholic drinks. I was feeling pretty loopy after just 2. I must be out of practice. We chatted and noshed and went for a longer route walk back to the car before heading home. 'Twas loverly.
*flips super short hair* Have a great rest of your weekend!

My ride ended after 2.5 miles. While I had everything I needed to fix the problem, I discovered that my tires are super tight on my new rims. I was finally able to get the tire off but failed to get the new one on as I needed a bead jack that was back home. I’ve never needed a bead jack for this bike, just Mr Pink. Grrrrr

Howdy! I puttered with woodwork all day yesterday. I was finally able to duplicate on my own what we did in that Amish class a few weeks ago. I’ve been working on that every weekend since, so woohooooo!!! Now I’m going to get some nicer wood and build a box or tray for my work bench. I’ve been working with pine, which is very soft. I want to try walnut. Cyn , my finger is better, but still swollen. The splint twists a little when I attempt to close my hand, and I think that’s causing issues because my whole hand aches. I may go back to immobilizing it with a spork. Thanks for asking! I’m really dragging this morning and it’s thundering. It may be time for a nap. I need to find an out-of-the-house activity today that isn’t running errands. I think the temp is supposed to be between 100 and 104 for the next week, so erranding is oh so very not enjoyable. Have a great day!

We ended up not going for Asian food, but will soon. The Boys were good, and it was good to see people out and about.
I have to go get dressed for my trip.
Have a great day!

Hi, Oh, Regina. I'm sorry. The best laid plans, right?
Got out for quite a lengthy bird outing to Jarvis Sanctuary this morning for the first time in awhile. I had good intentions earlier in the week, but the weather was just too much. It wasn't much better this morning, but I doubled up on cooling towels which helped.
Saw my first Ruby Throated Hummingbird of the season, briefly. Also a lovely juvenile American Kestral, a couple of Cedar Waxwings, and a pair of young Double Crested Cormorants swimming around North Pond. Also got to handfeed my Downy Woodpecker friend Beats, and his wife and offspring, who's been named Dre by Beats. 🤣
I'm in the process of re-claiming my bathroom. Queenie hasn't gotten into anything while left out of there when I go to bed or go out, so I'll vacuum the litter spray up, (she's been great w the big girl box,) wash the floor and the bath mats tomorrow, and start moving stuff back in out of my bedroom. Once we've had the vet appt, I'll start tackling cat proofing my room and see about letting her in there on and off. It's been working pretty well sleeping a little on the couch w her, then going into my room by myself. She hasn't been crying or scratching to get in, which I'm glad about.

Howdy!
I am so not excited about it being Monday already. I didn’t find anything to get me away from the house, so I puttered with woodworking most of the day. No social interaction at all leaves me mopey.
Today will be chock full of social interaction while getting our new person settled in at work. It’s going to be a busy week.
Have a great day!

Morning. Yesterday was pretty ok. YF & I went to yoga together and then for a super short run in the dark - just over a mile. Yoga was talky and relaxing (there are only 3 or 4 of us in these classes and we are all longtime friends). We went downtown and through the park where it is well lit. The run was still pretty warm at almost 10pm, but sooooo much nicer than if we'd tried for 7. Today I need to drop off the second contract with the bank and have them move money so I can write the check for the down payment. Deck guy will take a while (week ish?) to get started on this project. But he is subcontracting the cement pad to a buddy of his and that guy will be there today to start digging (I HOPE!) and scope out the project. MG is hurting really badly from weed eating the back area and the raised bed that went to weeds this year. It is a pinched nerve in his neck that is aggravated by lifting or holding heavy things for long periods. The doctor was discussing it with him at the last appointment and they talked about finding ways to help him that didn't rely on meds. BUT that means that the doc wants him to try PT when even moving in that much pain is torture. So he has his first PT appointment this afternoon. Our PT staff is excellent, but I don't know how they will be able to help him when every movement is written on his face in pain. I hope that they are able to help him find relief or refer him on quickly for surgery or other options. IF with the app is still going really well and I have maintained the 10# mark despite some less than stellar choices over the last week. I have several treats that YF brought the other day from KC. I am doing well portioning them out rather than devouring the box of goodies in one sitting. Yesterday was a little jar of chocolate pudding. Today is a lemon curd tart topped with blueberries. There is still a lemon cupcake, cinnamon roll flavored truffle and a cream puff waiting for me at home.

Greetings!
I drove all over the Omaha area yesterday and racked up another 125 miles. But I was successful at getting a different tire that isn't as hard (but still not easy) to get onto my new rims. Also got new tire levers from the REI in Gretna (SW of Omaha). The first bike shop I tried in Papillion (Omaha suburb) was able to help me although the owner and I weren't communicating well about what I needed to solve my problem so that I can fix future tire issues myself at the side of the road. His younger mechanic was wonderful, however, and got me all taken care of. I slipped him a $20 bill for putting up with the very cranky version of me that had first walked in the door.
I didn't sleep well last night as I was rattled from yesterday morning's adventure. I decided that the only way to calm down was to get out early this morning and ride around town to prove to myself that the bike is working since I'll be doing another long ride in Colorado tomorrow. I got out around 5am and it was much cooler and not much traffic. Ended up being out for 1 hour and 10.5 miles. I feel so much better now.
I have to get packed up now and head to Boulder where a bike shop is holding a tool for me that will help with getting tires onto the rim. I have such a tool back home.... doesn't do me much good 600 miles away and Amazon isn't able to ship me a new one in time. So I made a bunch of phone calls yesterday to track down someone who had it in stock.
Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies: Yesterday was hell moving the huge sectional. It did not "come apart" as advertised...LOL. It took 4 of us to get it to the street. I twisted my knee; hurt my back and think I dislocated my shoulder.....maybe. Too old to think I can still do/help with these things. Anyway, on heating pads all evening and again this am. Taking tylenol. Took DGS and DD out to dinner with my gift for babysitting the Ewok. It was delish. Was supposed to take DGS school clothes shopping today, but it's windy, heavy rain and tornado warnings.....we put it off for couple of days. My street looks like a river. I opened the front door and all 3 babies ran back to the office to go back to bed. Couch and loveseat are coming this afternoon. Lets hope it is shrink wrapped so they can get it in.

Back from Roanoke and enjoying more Olympics. I'm going to miss watching them when they are done. Tomorrow WF and I will head up, up, up in the mountains with my dogs. It will be at least 10 degrees cooler and the dogs can run off leash (usually). In had a great time with my friend--well, at least I did after another person left her house. This person thinks she is part of their family and insinuates herself into every part* of their life. My friend and I haven't had time to really catch up and were looking forward to that, but other person stayed for 6 hours! *DP alert Friday, my friend will take her 20 year old cat to be put to sleep. Other person wants to go with my friend and hang out with her afterward. Friend is NOT wanting this, but she is horrible about saying so. I feel for her.

Hi, Well, I wish I had put my laundry in early in the morning while it was still cool like I usually do, but I got involved in playing fetch with the Queen. We had a lovely rainstorm for awhile, but then it got steamy-drippy again.
I did get the bathroom all scrubbed up and moved everything back in, under very intent scrutinization by my new Inspector. She is very impressed with the new clean and fluffy bath mats.
Laundry done and folded, just need to put it away.
Got my lists done for tomorrow's Walgreen's Senior Discount Day, and early morning grocery shopping. Making the WW Slow Cooker Lasagna for the Meat-Eaters Club dinner tomorrow night, plus another batch of Longevity Salad (if I can find reasonable asparagus,) trying it with long grain and wild rice this time for the grain (on sale at Aldi last week.) Then vet at 1:30, thankfully much closer than the shelter was, so an easier journey. Hopefully not in the rain.

newmoose , can you gently tell the trying-to-be-helpful person that it's better to let the pet-mom process on her own, and hang back a bit? That would be a lovely, friend thing you could do to help. ETA Re-read your post... can you just tell this person to fuck off and leave her alone with her pet? 6 hours? FFS. This is somebody who's counting on not being confronted, and taking advantage. 🙄 ugh.

Still windy and darkish. It stopped raining about 1 so we could get in a fast walk. Hard rain again after that. It is too dim for me to see if it raining now, so thought I would step off the front porch.....def still raining and the wind nearly grabbed the front door out of my hand. In other news they called at 2:30 to say there would be no 2:30 delivery (even tho they knew all day). Then, they can't come until Sat. Well, they said they can come by Thurs/Fri, but I have plans most on both of those days so had to agree to Sat. In the meantime my couch is out in the rain on the street. The babies keep looking out the office window looking at it and at me clearly saying WTF mom.

Greetings from Longmont Colorado!
Wowza, Nebraska is a wide state. It was a very long day of driving, not quite 600 miles. I was doing 82 mph (75 mph speed limit) for a good chunk of the second half of Nebraska and eastern Colorado. And I was still getting passed. No delays with the few sections of road construction so that was good. Found the bike shop in Boulder without any issue and got my tool plus I picked up some energy gels to use on the long, tough hikes that are coming up. I used to use them all the time but weaned off to real food instead. For some of these hikes, I'll take the portable caffeine hit, thank you very much!
There was rain in the mountains yesterday afternoon. My cousin was having issues with water getting in between her ground tarp and her tent. She was using garbage bags and her rain poncho to try to keep dry. Her plan B was to sleep in her car. It looked like the rain stopped by 6pm so hopefully she was able to get some rest without being damp and cold. Reason number 99 why I have ZERO interest in camping.
My hotel is wonderful! Really glad I changed my reservation. Plus they are allowing me to check-out late at 12:30pm so I can get a shower when I get back from my ride.
Heading out soon to start my adventure. Yes, it is early but it is going to be well into the 90s again today. It will be cooler up in Dillon.
Have a great day!

Howdy!
The new lady at work is really nice. I hope she comes back today. 😁
Furniture school is tonight. Squeeee! I think we might be getting close to actually starting to assemble all the pieces. It’s pretty slow going with 8 people in the class. That’s kind of frustrating. The first week we cut the top and bottom and glued them together to make them wider. The second week we cut the sides and created a groove in all the pieces where the bottom will slide in. Eight hours of classes and that’s where we are. Still, it’s fun and the people are interesting and fun to chat with.
Have a great day!
