Hi friends, sorry I haven't checked in... I got some news that changed my whole perspective on food/diet/exercise. Ugg. At 60 years old I was diagnosed with CHF. No other cause than family history So...lots of changes. Fancy cardiac med (that is on advertised on TV), fluid restriction, and no salt. Until I have additional tests I need to not do aggressive exercise (get into HI heart rates). I am so thankful I can tap in on the Beck principles and make the changes. I have a new "why". I want to keep living. So, I'll Beck on...

What is CHF, jonik? I'm sorry to hear that you have a fairly serious (it sounds like) chronic disease. I hope you are able to manage it and live a good long time with a good quality of life Jun 8 credits: Exercised Read cards Logged food Used habit tracker Gave myself credit I've been doing a lot of stretching to open up my hips and lower back and I've made progress. But I realize that it is cutting down on my cardio and strength training time because I can't double up on the more intense stretching sessions with those two. I have to rethink how I structure my exercise routine. Today I finish 60 days of split training. No, I can't do a split of any sort but I can now sit cross-legged relatively comfortably with a straight back. I have no desire to do an actual split. But the training works the hips, hamstrings, glutes, lower back, ankles, feet and core muscles in order to be able to get to doing a split. Just as with the flexible back training. I have no desire to do a full wheel pose but the training works my shoulder flexibility and strength and my back. I was shocked to realize that I can't lift my hips off the ground to do a shoulder stand or plough pose any more either.

Congestive heart failure. Both my parents had it. A weakened heart condition that causes fluid build up in the extremities, lungs and other organs. jonik, sorry you are dealing with this. ermabom, I think you would have to give priority to stretching, but it is frustrating to have to choose. jonik , sorry for your diagnosis and yet as you stated an additional motivator for healthy living. lani,, ermabom , reading your above posts I am impressed with your physical routines for mobility, stability and balance. I'm very lazy in that respect. I have hip bursitis so it sounds like I could benefit from some of that. I certainly cannot sit on the floor cross-legged and only do standing gentle standing yoga poses a bit. Here Daily WI maintained Meditated Read a few cards Read posts and posting I have been doing some stress snacking the last few days and eating while standing as well. Time to pull out the Diet Trap Solution and reread the chapter on emotional eating.

lani, thanks for the explanation. I hadn’t heard the acronym before. The problem with the stretching program is that it fluctuates with intense and less intense and rest and recovery days. But they aren’t on the same days of the week. As it is, I have to arrange the workouts around other things - appointments, shopping, etc. And then having to move the actual workouts based on the stretching program is what is causing me to slip up and miss them. I was setting up a week at a time but then I fell into my fatigue/pain period and didn’t do that. I have to go back to it. That worked. I finished 60 days of splits today and will start a 90 day total body flexibility program on Monday. beherenow, I paid for the Stretchit app and use it and I highly recommend it. I am at the Beginner level and there is an absolute beginner level also. You don’t have to commit to the programs. I initially just did a few stretching routines like hip mobility and shoulder mobility which were less than 30 mins each. Even with the programs, nothing exceeds 45 mins. Most are 30 or less.

beherenow, I have sprained my ankles many times, broken both the ankle and foot, so I am very focused on balance. I have wonky knees as well and have heard strengthening the quads in particular will help with that. And I am consistent with ab exercises to shore up my back. It's time consuming for sure. Plus, I'm vain. Friday credits: Weighed - down 0.8 lb. Read new posts, posted Worked out - usual plus cardio Ate sitting, mindfully Tracked Wrote plan for today DH and I stopped having cookies and snack bags of chips on pizza night, and we are feeling much better the next day. We still have some dark chocolate and cheese to go with the wine that remains after we have finished pizza.

However, Mr. Lani brought home a portion of a cinnamon roll. But it's gluten free, he exclaims. As if that makes a difference! Plus cream cheese icing on the side. I ate it and gave myself 400 calories for it. Seems like that should be about right.

I've been experiencing some very mild sciatica and have been foam rolling and doing some extra stretches. It has not disappeared completely, but hasn't become debilitating yet. Hi, I have a 27 day tracking streak going. I had a PCP appt on Friday and talked to my Dr about a number of things. Like how the extra 10lbs I had in January has turned into 15, the tinnitus I have developed, some cognitive issues I've been observing, and the ongoing anxiety/depression/loneliness. I have committed to her to recommit to my weight loss and activity routines and structure so that I've at least made a substantial dent in those 15lbs by my next appt on October 4th. There will be bloodwork involved, so I'm also hoping my A1C # will come down w the #on the scale and ramped up activity. I recommit to that plan/goal here as well. jonik big hugs to you, that must have been really hard news to hear. lani out of curiousity, is the other Beck thread you belong to on the other former WW message board? The one Judy/BBearsMom used to run on the Newbies Board?

I have changed everything about how I live; what I eat, how much I drink, how I exercise. I am so thankful for the old Beck tapes that play in my head. "Oh well" is my mantra when I see others having what I want. I'll simply do what it takes.

Really small group, maybe five constant participants and some who come and go. Judy is still doing quarterly reviews and leads daily posting. jonik, you are handling your diagnosis impressively.
