Well, drat. I made a two step angle food cake (from a mix) but didn’t bake it long enough and it fell out of the pan. So now I need to go to town for another mix. So mad. But IIWII and it’s early in the day, so I have time to go to town, get home make another one and get it baked. The bread dough is rising at least it’s not as finicky! Or I make it enough I know what to look for?
Pooh.

We're taking it easy this weekend. Went to check on the water bill on line and they say I don't have the right e-amil but that's the one they sent the e-invoice to. Will have to check that out on Monday.
DH did a load of his clothes and I need to do towels and bath rugs and run the full dishwasher. Always something. Need to come up with a good dinner for DH since we had fried shrimp and french fries last night. Not to healthy. Thinking his favorite chicken, potato and green bean casserole. Easy and I look like I really did something when I didn't...
Peg - Sounds like the angel food cake turned into a "devils" food cake. Good luck with the 2nd one.
Everyone seems to be cooking up a storm for Monday's Seder.
The deer ate all our hostas so I don't plant them any more.

So now I'm going to say something completely not politically correct - I now know why people had servants. I just spent an hour cleaning/polishing my and my mother's silver serving trays and those things that Pyrex sit in. I did not do a perfect job but it'll be good enough. Whew. That was tiring.
We have Oscar and he's sleeping on the couch as always. he's getting older and is less active now. Sad. That's what it is.
Peg - oops sorry about the cake.
Nancy - see what I mean about hostas? Daylillies are the same as are sedum. The deer get hungry and they don't care how much we like those plants LOL.
Will leave in an hour. I now need to straighten my hair since it got all frizzy leaning over the silver. I also need to change into "concert" clothes.

Good afternoon all. We are home from Philly and the first load of laundry is in the dryer. I will do the second load after DH mows the lawn. We had a very lovely time with our friends. He got the tickets when someone else could not use them - so glad he invited us instead of a client - teehee. I paid more attention to the email about the rugs and only the 8x10 is coming Monday. I figure we will put it in the LR until the larger one arrives.

Nearly done with everything but the final baking. The second cake, using the one step angle food mix came out fine. I also used two 9” loaf pans. If I had some way to write on the tops I could put their names on each one. But I don’t have any decorating stuff and I am NOT going back to town.
The scalloped potatoes are in the oven. The rolls are on their final rise. Now to clean up the kitchen!! But, first I had to sit, and I took a couple of Advil cause I pretty much hurt everywhere. Am I getting too old for this? Maybe?
By doing all this today it will make tomorrow much easier, I’ll start with the meats tomorrow then do the green beans and finally make the salad. Of course there is the table to set and final cleaning of everything, but not until I rest a bit.
I’ve been listening to the Cubs game, I’ve always loved listening to Pat & Ron, and while it’s a different Ron now, it’s still very entertaining.
Allison - great seats yesterday, now you’re so spoiled you will want those everytime!! Our lawn looks so much better after DH mowed yesterday. I should have gone out today and hoed the grass out of the one bed, but just didn’t have time. I do have clean windows tho’ at least in the sliding glass door and here by the table. Piffle on the rest of them.
Caryn - I could have used a maid today too. Where’s Hazel when we need her? Don’t know if I said…. Yesterday was Maddie’s 5th birthday!! Five. Hard to believe.
RV - the only good thing about flop cake is that DH will be very happy. He loves angel food cake and has already had some of the underbaked one. I made sure the last one was good and done. Worried about getting it out of the loaf pans, but it worked. Whew. I did buy two boxes of mix, just to make sure. I’ll put the second one in the freezer, which will keep it good for a long time.
Off to check if the rolls need to go in, and check on the potatoes.

Second load is in the washer & lawn is mowed. I walked 2 miles in new sneakers that rubbed my outer ankle - I called New Balance and will be returning that style on Monday to the UPS store. Now watching NCAA Women's Gymnastics.
Peg - glad the second cake worked out and DH was willing to eat the first one. The tickets we had were given to our friend through the owner of the Phillies minor league owner - I doubt they are available for sale...

Peg, sorry about the extra work baking a 2nd cake...at least J liked the floppy one. Happy birthday to Maddie
Caryn, I had a few silver pieces, but they got sold or donated before we moved. My kids didn't want them, and I hated the polishing. I still have the silver place settings, but that's it. So, yes, I get why people had help.
Allison, sorry the sneakers hurt. Hope you find a style that works. Yeah for new rugs
DH cut the fig tree way back this winter. It finally started to sprout new leaves. Overnight, snails ate over half of the new growth! I put snail bait and beer, doesn't stop them.
Relaxing today, tomorrow is a long day of cooking, laundry, and packing

Evening all. The Phillies won and now it is time to read. I'll see if I can stay up to watch SNL. Tomorrow is Farmer's Market and I'll take a walk. I have three friends coming in the evening to play Mah Jonng (I'll clean and straighten in the afternoon).

Good morning! Realized I didn’t get back here yesterday.
Peg - have fun today w family.
Gina - I have silver but I have them in those felt cloths that keep the, from tarnishing.
Allison - those seats were great! Was wondering if they came from the organization.
Well, the garden guy did not show up yesterday. Probably the rain. But when it cleared we put in the hostas that DH wanted. Tried very hard not to work the soil too much.
Also made babaganoush. Came out really well!
Anyway, Scruffy is waiting so better start the walks!
Enjoy your Sunday!

Good morning. I'm in an hour to work our Food Scrap table at the Arboretum's Earth Day event. It's sunny out but cold. I'm wearing a turtle neck and a sweater with my jeans and will wear a jacket and maybe a scarf and certainly a hat since we don't set up under a tent. My shift is 2 hours with another woman named Karen. Then 2 others will relieve us.
This afternoon I'm cooking for tomorrow's Seder: the haroset (apples, walnuts, wine all smushed in my food processor); the matzo kugel (with onions, mushrooms and zucchini and chicken broth to moisten), and the matzo "candy" (sheets of matzo covered in caramel, baked and then melt chocolate chips on it. I add big grained salt on top. then break it up into pieces). I have more to cook tomorrow. The 2's will be here later to help move furniture and set up the tables. I also want to wash our towels today. So it's a crazy busy day for me.
Jeanne - sorry about the garden guy. Glad you got the hostas planted. I'll start gardening after the Seders. It's a great day for walking.
Allison - you have a nice day planned
Peg - your day today sounds like mine. Glad the second cake came out well - and that DH will eat the first one.
Going to clear my inbox and then get ready to go. I think I'll not pack a fanny pack since I need a coat. Just bring some money and my phone. That's what back jeans pockets are for LOL

Caryn, I so want to try all your tasty recipes you're making!
Allison, what a fun time at the game and great seats too!
Peg, glad the second cake came out well and DH got a bonus out of the oops!
RV, you deserve a weekend of rest. What is that like anyway? LOL
Yesterday was fun with DDIL, DSGD and DDIL's parents at the show. It was so very well done, we all loved the music and story. When I returned home, DH and "family" were at a fundraiser "meat raffle" so I stopped there and ended up giving some rides home to put their winnings away (DH won two times so we have so much meat - there must be 50 beef sticks, bacon wrapped pork chops with loaded baked potatoes, farmer ring bologna, a summer sausage and can't remember what else). Everyone changed into comfy clothes and we met at Susan's to play some card games and they made pizzas. It was midnight once again, before I gave some rides home and we all called it a night!
I had a call from DDIL this morning, she and DS will be coming by around 1:00. If we don't think of somewhere to go (apparently the produce and greenhouse place we all want to go to is closed on Sundays) and since he's vegan, it limits our options so we may just hang out here and play some cards or something. DS has done so very well being vegan and his doctor is super happy with his improvement in his numbers! His A1C is down to 6.1 and if he gets it under 6, he can come off his medications! Now there's some motivation, he's so close.
Well, a bit more coffee, breakfast and see what else I can get done (shower and getting dressed needs to happen too)!

Read the paper, emptied the dishwasher which was packed to the gills. Need to get to $tree to get a batch of birthday cards. Lowes is right next door so would like to see what they have in flowers for containers.
Everyone is cooking up a storm. I cooked extra chicken last night so am planning on fajitas for dinner.

Good afternoon. I am riding the bike watching the Phillies. I didn’t get to walk as after breakfast and Farmers Market I got back to cleaning and organizing. On the upside I have a bunch of items to donate and others in the trash.

Ah, feels good to sit down! I made a meat/leek/matza casserole, chocolate almond cookies, and matza pancakes for DH. I also packed up the few 'chametz' items in our pantry (glutenfree wheat starch, oatmeal & DH's cereal). For us that's about it. As for the wheat starch, the Italians have figured out a way to remove gluten from wheat, leaving only the starch, making it safe for me. If I add eggs and other binders, I can bake focaccia or pizza dough, or use it to coat dust meats & fish before pan frying. Nick Stellino has some recipes using it I want to try when Passover is over.
Last load of laundry is running now, I've figured out what I want to bring, DH needs to put out his stuff, then I can pack. I've got a list of all the food we're bringing, I don't want to forget anything! After 35 seders, it feels strange not hosting. I'm looking forward to it though.
DH got the purple connections with his first guess yesterday, he was pleased!
Fig tree seems to be recovering from the snail damage. Wish I could figure out a barrier that they won't cross, like a sticky tape on the trunk or something. All the new growth could be gone by the time I get home.
Fishing season opened on the 19th, but there aren't any boats going that DH wants to go on. The only ones that have enough people signed up are 1/2 days on the weekends. He'd rather go 3/4 or full day. He'd go on a Sunday if there was a boat going. Prices are going up, gas is back over $6/gallon here, so it's just not something a lot of folks can afford to do. Some of the guys he fishes with drive 2-3 hours each way to get here. That gas adds up.
Jeanne - how difficult is it to make babaganoush? I think I'd like to try to do it.
Caryn - I no longer put my phone in my back jeans pocket...I forgot it once and it almost dropped in the toilet! So, don't forget it's there, COL. I want to try the matza candy with gf matza this year, but after we get home.
Nancy - did you find flowers?
Allison - I have a large box of stuff that I need to donate. If I haven't worn it since we moved here 6 years ago, will I? Not likely. Still hard to part with some stuff.
And when we get back I need to take some stuff to the dry cleaners, keep putting that chore off.

Gina, I read you can use copper tape which will give them a small electrical charge if they cross it. You can probably find it at any home store (Lowe's, Menards, Home Depot). Another option was placing beer in a container at the base, the snails will be drawn to the beer and drown themselves.
I'm beat! DS and DDIL were here and learned to play cribbage. We then met her parents at a place between our towns to grab a bite to eat before we all headed back home. Her parents were doing yard work so welcomed getting a break and treating themselves after their hard work. I'm ready to put my feet up and hope I can keep my eyes open!

Well, I thought I had posted earlier, but I guess it went poof? All went well today. We sat around the table talking and talking, sharing memories and more. So glad we were able to do this.
That said, I’m exhausted, and ‘Call the Midwife’ just came on. So I’ll just say ‘hi’ and I’ll see you tomorrow.
